Imperial Clipper

It handles like a dream and has one of the best cockpit views in the game IMO. Absolutely perfect blockade runner. Aside from that though, I can find no use for it. At least, nothing that other ships won't do much, much better. It's an odd ship. It requires a large pad but doesn't have the shielding or utility slots to justify being classified as a large. Only four hardpoints (again-anemic for a large ship) and their placement is absolute trash.

I love flying it though. I sometimes bring it out as a bubble bus or material gatherer.

isnt the clipper just for people who dont have rank/credits for the cutter?

its a bit like those fake copycat cars, its a mini cooper honest.

The thing with the Clipper is... what’s it for?
If you’re trading Large pad to Large pad, then use a large trade ship.
If you want multi-role and medium access, Python or Krait II.

It would be much more appealing if it had medium pad access, then it could compete with the Python and Krait, but it doesn’t, and to me, that kind of makes it redundant.
It's a gankboat ^^

and it looks stunning doing it (y)

I run all efficient pulses on mine and 7C biweaves. MCs and frags also work well. If you do run lasers tho, they have to be efficient. Any other type drains weapon capacity too fast.

Great multirole. It has excellent module slots for exploration or trade, and may be the most suitable ship in ED for core mining.

For combat the Clipper is grossly underrated because it doesn't start to shine until it gets engineered. It can be drifty but once you get the hang of the way it drifts, it can actually be used as an advantage. It's as fast as a Mamba, pitches like a Vulture, and has enough module slots to do anything (including running SCBs and STILL having a tanky hull, unlike the Mamba or FDL).

Weaknesses are hardpoint convergence and DPS compared to top tier combat ships, but it's strengths neutralize it's weaknesses.

Many people want the Clipper buffed but I think they just haven't flown the right build yet.

I'm Clipper owner too. With some low mass modules it is good explorer for middle length journeys. For example to the crystalline forest. Very handle in the super cruise. Beware high G planets if using under-size thrusters.

All I want is for them to move the two C2 hardpoints closer together, ideally on the body of the ship. It's pretty much impossible to effectively use two Imperial Hammers on it as-is.

I guess if I'm really dreaming, it'd be neat if they made it use any imperial weapons like 50% better. Like, if Advanced PAs and Imp Hammers generated 50% less heat and drew 50% less power. But I doubt that'll ever happen.

i have just outfitted one as a rescue ship.
last round i used my ax-focussed dropship for the rescue - the clipper holds more passengers, all rescue is L-Pad anyways, and i'm surprised how cool it runs. handling is perfect, standard paintjob has the right colour. and it's a good reason to fly it!

That, or they don't go for those acivities, where the Clippers unique performance really shines. (E.g. retrieving cargo from uncooperative targets. When a Python or Krait are not fast enough but you still need a number of internals to do the job, the Clipper is your ship. )
