Imperial Courier = Awesomeness on toast

I really hope this ship has a better jump range than the Clipper.

For those who played the old Elite games, was the Courier the fastest ship or close to it?

No, but it was the fastest sublight for it's size/mass category (which was bigger than the Asp then, the Asp was even faster though).

In terms of jump range, it was ok stock. The main problem with the jump range was you couldn't upgrade the FSD without resorting to some dodgy methods.

Don't get me wrong, RSI's work with the Cryengine is insane. The lighting and textures / surfaces is second to none. It's really cool to see all of the interiors and stuff, but we'll be seeing all of that in ED too. As far as ship design goes though, IMO, their underwhelming. 95% of them are very small, no bigger than modern day planes. Whereas in Elite, the ships are huge, some of them as big as buildings, 3-4 decks high. The Retaliator there for example, to me looks like a giant bug from the front and aft of the ship.

That's obviously just my opinion though, everyone has their own flavor. That said, if I could marry Elite's ships, with those graphics... ugh. Would be amazing.

I am an SC backer though, and my Constellation Andromeda and Freelancer are sitting in their hangar awaiting the arrival of the PU. ;-)

Likewise, i have an andromeda waiting. Just walking round it in my hangar makes me want to cry. I can't wait for the courier though, it does look extremely sexy.

I love elite, its a great game and has a lot of potential. That being said, ED and SC will be two totally different games, and one thing i am convinced of for me personally, is that nowhere ever, have i ever seen ships that look as cool and amazing as the ones they create in SC. More so when you walk around them in a hangar, it is genuinely breathtaking at times, to think the same ships will not only be flyable and able to walk around inside, but also board and fight in them. No film, game or TV show for me, past or present, even comes close in terms of ship design.

Hats off to those guys, they enjoy their work as much as the FD devs do. Its just a case of budgets. Not taking anything away from FD, they are currently the best developers i have yet encountered working on any persistent game. Very professional. Its just a case of budgets. ED wanted kickstarter up to 2 million, SC is currently sitting at 80 million.........crazy money.

I dunno... I kinda feel like the 'wings' on it are too compacted.

I like the more open / free look of the Imperial Clipper.

The Imperial Courier looks like someone took a picture of a Transformer just as he was about to transform into, well... a transformer rather than a vehicle.

Those imperials sure know how to make ships!
Clipper, courier, both magnificent looking pieces of work!

I really love the sleek lines instead of those jagged geometrical other ships.

So, I'll take on for sure!

I'm really looking forward to this ship. I hope it's close to the cobra in size and use. I want a nice imperial explorer ship to compliment my clipper pirate/bounty hunter ship.

I think the boys over in the art department at FD, just showed RSI what time it is, when it comes to designing an amazing looking ship. I seriously can't wait to walk around in these things!

I feel comparing this games models to SC models is kind of apples to oranges. The total style is different, SC is going for designs it would seem more based of real aircraft. Where as ED is going full on Geometrical figures turned into ships look.
