Imperial Courier vs Vulture (is Courier better?)

The speed of the FDL is what makes it so good at staying close to your opponent and out of their line of fire. Unlike the Vulture you can't really keep it in the blue 100% of the time and expect great success. Constantly adjusting your throttle and using your maneuvering thrusters is helpful for mastering the FDL.

I agree. But because it's faster the speed controller is more sensitive to any adjustments. So the FDL is a better ship if you are a better pilot. I'm not yet good enough to get the best out of an FDL unfortunately, but I am improving.

It probably doesn't help that I have moved to using two joysticks and I control the thrust with the hat on the second joystick. Unlike when I used a single joystick, I have no tactile sense as to what my thrust is set to.

...
However the most important combat tip for the FDL (any ship really) is to suppress the instinct to shoot them while they are scanning you, or try to snipe them from extreme range. These are tactically bad moves, because the best position to be in is close to your enemy; NPCs typically only open fire once they have 'seen' you while in combat, sparing you turret fire, and the closer you are the more difficult it will be for them to turn to face you, because the distance you have to travel to match their rate of turn is vastly reduced.
This is actually one of the differences between FAS and FDL. With the hull mass of FAS you just boost towards scanning ship while unloading all weapons at him while he is completely stationary, and ram him with 4 pips to sys. If it was something big like python or anaconda you loose 1 ring of shield, but target shield is amost certainly down. FDL is almost 2x lighter so it does not work as good...

And in vulture-courier comparison hull mass is also big disadvantage of courier. It is very light and can get squished really easy, even with all the shield. This is the main reason why i rarely fly courier now, too many ramming NPC-s...

The Courier doesn't really have utility. It still has terrible cargo, a tiny fuel tank, and the internals are very small. That's the problem with it. It has no focus, and it isn't a multirole. It's worse than the Cobra and far more expensive.

Did you ever actually fly a Courier? It is a great little ship and holds up very well in PVE dogfighting.

In my book, the Vulture is easy mode - it kills things fast and without pilot skill. The Courier requires more skill but is also a lot more fun than the Vulture.

This. Really throwing out more love for The Clipper. It's a beast of a ship that feels like flying silk. I swear, if it could land at outposts, I'd never fly anything else.

+1 on the Clipper. It is the largest ship that can actually dog-fight and does great in RES. Don't give much stock to the 2/10 agility rating, this thing handles like a ship a quarter of its size.

I have been flying a Courier for months. It's a cool little ship, but it lacks focus is all. I'd like to see them either give it some focus, or make it better at multirole.

It's an awesome little ship that just needs a little extra oomph somewhere.

I run bi weaves on every bounty hunting setup. There's no reason not to. 20% less strength than A rated, but 50% faster recharge. You also save power.

They're both really nice ships, but I did find the Vulture had the edge, especially against larger ships in PvE situations, as others have already said. Personally I think the iCourier is a little nicer to fly, and also makes a great surface salvager, albeit a little tight on cargo space.

Yeah!

It may be worth noting that the iCourier will be able to use the new improved class 3 drives and so will be getting a buff with the next patch.

This will help :D

For all the naysayer, is all comes down to player skills and having the right loadouts, yes the Vulture has large weapons and should do dominate on paper but the Couries has a small profile and is harder to hit. I love fighting Vultures and I rarely lose i don't know maybe I know how to fight them after all.

PD = Power Distributor. The vastly inferior PD on the Courier throttles its' DPS down significantly. Also, C2 weapons fare less well against larger targets due to the size penalty compared to C3. Thus the Vulture will do more DPS to hulls.

The smaller PD can be compensated somewhat by using 1-2 kinetic weapons. It will avoid the capacitor drain and help you in dropping the armor of larger ships.
It's still not the same simply slapping two large pulses on the Vulture, but it can be fun as well.
