Imperial Cutter and docking computer is a joke.

about 3 times now, quite a distance from station, docking computer takes over, and you straff into the side of the station (im greedy hence no shields)

the docking computer cant deal with the momentum of the cutter at all. never had this problem with a type 9 or anaconda. bye bye 60 million credits. sigh

If you died while using the DC it seems you can contact support to get reimbursed for the loss.

Also, you are contradicting yourself:
If you were greedy, then you would fly without DC to have more cargo and be faster at docking.
So I conclude: You are just being lazy.:p

Get shields!

I have a cutter, so know how this beast handles. It is the heaviest ship in Elite with a Mass of over 1600+ tons, so it won't handle like a normal ship, if you want to use the Docking computer, then i would advise getting the ship stable and pointing in the right direct to the letterbox, slow the ship down so all drift is off, then ask for docking permission and let the docking computer take over.

I just fly it through the letterbox and throttle off when I'm half way over the landing pad before I let the DC take over, it's much safer and quicker. Also notice my Cutter lands on right outer edge of the bulls eye so pad clamps grab it and haul it back to the left. If your drifting into the station sideways you need to throttle off sooner and give the poor thing a chance to follow its nose, failing that turn away and boost to overcome the drift and avoid the impending collision.

I have a Cutter as well, and never have I experienced any issue with the Docking computer.
I have experimented, that if you are going faster than normal max speed(boost).
Then the DC will have an anxiety attack trying to dock.

Like it was said earlier, fill a support ticket. They'll go over your account and refund your ship (but not the cargo) if it is indeed due to a docking computer malfunction.

But for the future, please don't trust a 4000cr computer to handle your half-billion ship. Learn to dock whitout it, especially if you don't carry shields, so you can be extra-slow and extra-carefull.

Also, carrying a shield isn't a bad idea considering the amount of money you lost because of random crashes.

The standard docking computer is not compatible with the iCutter. You need to get the IMperial iDocking Computer. Sold seperately by discerning Hitech stations.

I've used the docking computer in my Cutter, and I can relate to OP.

I find that I need to be far more careful about positioning myself on approach to the station using the computer. Approaching the slot from any point outside of a directly straight-on orientation with any real speed tends to result in scratched paint and jossled slaves.

Side question but what docking computer looks like if it fits into slot size 1?

Never knew my docking computer had that many heat sinks....Anyway I've abandoned mine and gone back to manual it was so rubbish on the Cutter.

Just look at the giant heatsinks your spaceship has. I guess in the elite universe any kind of device has an effiicenty of like 2% and the rets is wasted 98% into heat. No one even ever tried to turn this heat back to energy, which would be easy and possible considerin the size of our spaceships.

cutter has probably the worst ship handling ever, all the thrusters are in the back-i have missed theail box 3-4 times now and instead of usual deal where i straighten the ship the cutter just keeps going to the wrong direction with momentum
the ship to me need to be completely relearned so i could fly it like an actual plane
