Imperial Cutter questions - and outfitting

So, I've set a goal, and that is to get the Cutter. I'm well aware of it not being a particularly "good ship". But it's a goal that I have to reach. Soon hopefully. I have a couple of questions about the rank required.
The money will be no problem at all that'll be done in a couple of days.
-How long would it take to reach the rank required to actually being able to purchase the ship?

Would it be posible to have a multi purpose ship and yet still deal quite an amount of damage? - Yet still having a few cargo slots and such for the lust of a missions or two.
If someone could come up with a good outfitting that'd be very lovely. (ps. I haven't had the cutter before, so I haven't tried it):D

I doesn't take too long to get the rank really.

The cutter can deal a lot of damage with its hardpoints, it's also extremely durable. Manoeuvrability is it's problem in combat however, it doesn't turn well. Most NPCs you can easily kill just flying backwards but that's pretty dull. It's not too good in combat against a well equipped player but escape is farily easy with huge shields and a fairly decent speed.

But overall the cutter is not fun to do combat in, I would say buy yourself a FAS or FDL for combat.

It's a very good multi purpose ship, but needs engineering to feel truly special and you will need to be able to use your manoeuvreing thrusters because even with grade 5 dirty drives she drifts like Han from Tokyo drift.

The owners club in the ships forum has a few good load outs for the Cutter, my personal favourite is huge and large multis, two imperial hammers under the body and two pulse turrets on the nacelles.

You didnt say for pvp or pve? It is a good ship and can serve as a well defended multirole ship in every condition. Just give it some time to get around manouvering it. First time i bought it, i sold it the next day. Now i can sneak in stations in silent running.

I know it's not combat designed. I'm gonna get the FDL on my "main-account" (this is my alt) But yea, I just want the ship really, but so you're sauomg ot wont take long for the rank? Like, how much time are we takin' from scratch?

Well, both. If I run into another player, I'd like to be able to ethier get away or either take up the fight. All tho I don't think I'll be using it for PVP.

Bahahahaa sounds good lol, but I haven't looked into engineers yet, maybe I should soon lol

The cutter is a space truck.
Its main use is just hauling huge amounts of cargo - in relative safety.
Dont get it for combat - its for trading...

I dont even bother running hardpoints on mine since 2.1 - boost boost, jump ( I did try the mine thing - but tbh - half the time you wouldn't get any money for the kill as you'd need to KWS first - and then go back to some station to pick up the bounty. If you can afford a cutter - you wont be fussed about the odd 100K bounty anyway)

For outfitting.

Just set up some point defense, chaff, and shield boosters.
Fit a 6A shield generator.
Rest as cargo racks (or extra fuel tanks/scoop as required)
and haul 720t a time.

if you see you're gonna get interdicted - 4 pips shields, 2 pips engine, submit, boost boost jump.

Well, I'm not gonna be hauling any big time cargo. Because that's not really what I enjoy. I know it's not good for combat. And it's not really the thing it's supposed to do in my case. Just a multi-purpose ship for exploration, a couple small missions, landing on a planet/moon or whatever..

The definition of *good ship* is personal taste. I wreck Elite NPC FDLs and Anacondas with ease with my trading cutter, so it is not as bad as a combat vessel as they say. You just need to use turrets.

As for a good multipurpose ship:

That is what i used before i decided to diversify my fleet of ships. Currently my Cutter is fitted for 640t of cargo with 6A shields and a 6B SCB + 4A Fuel Scoop and a docking computer.

As i said, i wreck Elite NPCs that come after me with it without problems.

If you look out for discounts when buying stuff u can save a lot of money, but yeah, the Cutter is the most expensive ship out there. On the other side: little compares to flying such a beast around.

Yea, I'll have to look for discounts. But I have not gotten the rank yet ofcourse, I'll wait until I have to money

here is my multipurpose cutter:
https://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial...4v4C0.AwRj4yu8g===.Aw18ZCMw0A==?bn=INV Amicus

8A powerplant to support 8A thrusters, while the most expensive mods on the ship, are truly revelations when installed. 8C biweave shield and all 8 utility slots with a rated boosters gives you ~2000MJ of shields, turreted pulse lasers for the majority of weapons = easy mode killing, huge gumballed multicannon under the nose for the sheer devastation it offers and because it gives you something to do, collector limpet controllers and SRV for salvage missions and scooping cargo / materials from signal sources etc, then >400t of cargo.

Hm yea, might go witha 600mil outfitting.

It CAN be fitted for combat.. but that's not it's role. Its a heavily armored one ship convoy. Mine stays at Jameson until I need a quick 40-50 million.
.
I used 4 mine launchers on mine ( un-modded ), 8A shields, with 8 class A boosters.. Worked great on NPCs, and usually once for a cheap shot on human CMDRs. A good pilot will out-turn, out accelerate, and generally cut you to ribbons in almost anything out there if you give them enough time. Most of the time if they could catch you, they couldn't hurt you much. After a while interdictions became annoying. They couldn't touch me and the 75k credit bounty wasn't worth my time to collect. I was making 5-7 million an hour on my standard run. As mentioned, Boost-Boost-Jump.

My 'as built' ran about 550 million credits.

A good cutter pilot in an engineered build is invincible. Trust me, PVP interdiction either end in someone else's insurance screen or me laughing as a walk away.
