Imperial Cutter vs TYPE-9 experiance

I am looking for an answer to what kind of experience should Cutter deliver compared to TYPE-9? In T9, I was flying with paper shields, no guns. I had to be very, very careful. Lurking through open play had that exciting thrill to it. My new (so they say) Cutter has 8A shield, when attacked lights up like christmas tree and fries small wanna be NPC pirates in seconds.

Comparing to T9 in Cutter. There is no problem with small attacks but it is waste of time so I jump out as I would do in T9. Bigger NPC and players are to be avoided as in T9, maybe even more if you consider buyout cost. Profit difference from trading is irrelevant. At the end I am replying very similar experience.

Not to mention that it is tempting to dust off ASP and make some real money for upcoming(?) Panther Clipper.

Why run class 8 shields for trading? I think you can go down to class 5 or 6 and fill your utilities with boosters. You're wasting lots of cargo space with those shields.

I do get your point, but with lesser shields I would be very reluctant to go to open play. On that note I do not see a problem in going shieldless in solo play. But it removes the thrill from the game.

I've not had any problems with a 6D shield for open trading in the Cutter. I do run a 7A PD with 7D engines for plenty of booster spam (it's mostly a leftover from when I had it setup for mining as 7 C2 Mining Lasers just crush asteroids), but TBH, the shields have been perfectly sufficient both for mining and cargo hauling. Anything big enough to be dangerous you can outrun, and anything you can't outrun, you'll be back in supercruise or the in the next system before you're in much, if any, danger of dying.

It won't take a 5x or smaller shield, though, it's just too heavy for 'em.

The cutter can hold 728 tons of cargo if you downsize the shields, fill all the utility slots with boosters and you still have plenty of shielding to high wake out if you get attacked. Not to mention the higher boost speed and jump range of the cutter, its really better than the t9 in every way.

I somewhat feel sorry for the Type 9. People didn't particularly like it before the Cutter, but it was a money maker, now everyone is going to forget about it...

If it would at least have large hardpoints and the small ones moved to a better position....

The cutter requires a Class 6 shield.

6A with 8 boosters is 1183 MJ. With a Prismatic you're looking at almost 1600 MJ.

That is impenetrable.

even if it had the firepower of an Anaconda, that wouldn't make the problem of the super low jump range and the terrible handling go away. The Type 9 simply needs a cargo capacity buff and a mass reduction.

The T9 is still great, it makes a lot of money for those that are just rich but not yet super rich.

That is its purpose.

Type - 9 doesnt need a buff, because its successor will be the panther clipper. a class 6 biweave shield is good enough its regen rate is insane so you can boost and run from people shooting you in open.

Indeed. And I'd argue the T-9 was mostly obsolete before the Cutter anyway, since the Anaconda had almost as much cargo space, better jump range, and better ability to escape interdiction.

I like the look of the T-9 though. It really makes you feel like a dedicated trader. It's just too bad that it isn't really good enough at anything to be worth using for more than a stepping stone to a Conda for trading, and later the Panther Clipper.
(boycotting the Cutter until it's a proper warship and not a rank-locked space cow)

If you can purchase Imperial Cutter, there are no reason to use T9. Cutter is the best trading ship you could ever dream of at the moment, junk your T9 asap!

- Cutter beat T9's cargo hold by a large number
- Cutter has more stock HP and shield than T9
- Cutter has more speed than T9
- Cutter has much better jump range than T9's miserable jump range
- Cutter has Agility 2, while T9 has 0 agility! ZERO!!!

And the most important ones are
- Cutter looks sexier than T9 that looks like space brick
- Cutter has sexier engine sound than T9 that sounds like fart
- Cutter has spacious and comfy cockpit than T9's cockpit that looks like a gaol!

Any sane person would choose Imperial Cutter than T9 given they have all the funds and rank.

I have never tried a T9, but I think it is - still - the most awsome looking ship in the game.
