Ships Imperial Eagle (1.4 beta)

Wondering what is the point of the large wing pods if they dont carry weapons (they look like they might have retractable nose hatches at one point)

I must say.. the class 3 Power plant .. yes!

Wing pods... They're the imperial way. They don't need to -do- anything. Just exist.

Who is eligable to get the eagle for free?
Is it the Kickstarter backers?

Those with the "Imperial Bounty Hunter" package. I think that was from the Kickstarter? Dunno.

The ship seems to run really hot. I got heat damage from boosting while charging the FSD.

Yeah I overheated it doing this as well, very hot ship even with A-rated Power Plant. Maybe they will tweak that, I heard the Courier was similar in beta?

Yes, I actually started with the Imperial Bounty Hunter on my CMDR, so when logging in on the Beta I have an Imperial Eagle stored in a system I haven't been to.

Am I the only one wondering why the ship is designated as a Core Dynamics ship, when the Imperial Eagle was supposed to be a Gutamaya adaptation of the standard Eagle?

Also: Some other problems

- the shipyard spinning hologram is still that of a standard Eagle
- why are the class 1 hardpoints on the bottom of the ship's belly and not mounted right under the nose where they belong?

- the tips of the nacelles would have been a wonderful place for them, too... wasted opportunity :-(

No room for them and they work fine where they are.

Using the nacelles would also destroy convergence, which is about as good as it gets with them right next to each other on the centerline, as they are now.

Really? I tested the ship and found that with gimbals sometimes it seems as if the belly mounts were firing through the nose of the ship or even the cockpit. Clipping errors. Also, there is plenty of room for two small hardpoints direktly below the cockpit of the ship.

If you're talking fixed weapons, yes... maybe. But using gimbals, the wing mounts would be ideal, as they give a wide firing arc.

Also, using the wing mounts would have distinguished the Imperial Eagle further from the original, which is already equipped well for fixed weapon combat.

Ok, I have to ask. I've been noticing a growing number of black letters on black background posts. Is this a forum glitch or is making text hard to read the new black?

My initial impression of the Impy Eagle after taking one out for a spin tonight... the Viper just became obsolete.

I haven't really flown it enough to positively say that - notably I havent' gotten hit much and have almost no impression of durability (though I did ram a station wall under boost and didn't die, so it has to be tougher than a stock Eagle!).

This thing is a whole lot of fun to fly. If I had to guess, it's probably not tough enough to take on Condas and the like unless you're amazingly good at not getting hit, but... I wasn't having any problem roasting Elite Vipers in it tonight. In fact, it was pretty easy.

Even though I have an FdL, I'm gonna have to get one of these for those moments when I just want some old-fashioned dogfighting fun. If they port the Red Ignition paint scheme over to this Eagle, I'll officially be in love.

Viper is still a viable combat ship, the eagle mk3 is the new interceptor.

But we're in agreement in regards to the new "fun" ship to fly. :)

Well, you need Outsider, which should not be that hard to get yet.

Probably a decent ship next to the Viper.

Unless the heat doesn't get fixed. Which it did on the Courier.
