Imperial Eagle Potential?

After the FSS mini game has completely killed exploration for me, I've decided to go for combat elite. I'm only at 29% dangerous so I've got a ways to go but I figured I'd try to "get gud" as well.

I think the iEagle is the best looking ship in the game and I'm curious how effective it can be in combat. With an ace pilot, would it be able to take on an Anaconda or FDL for example? Or is that overly ambitious? I'm guessing it probably is.

I'm just looking for opinions on the ships limits so I can set a realistic long term goal and know whether it's my piloting skills failing me, or the ship.

You can take on any of the other ships, but Imperial Eagle's small hardpoints and class 2 distributor means that it takes a long time. With something that has, say, class 6 distributor and a mix of medium and large weapons this isn't an issue, and you aren't hindered by your ship.

I'm a leaf on the wind... watch me soar... Love love love my tiny fighter. She's fast and nimble and has an ok array of weapons that are steadily getting more capable. It's not about the kill, it's all about the battle.. well unless you are trying to make rank I guess. I personally don't care about making rank but I will put the stickers of glory on my ship if they happen to be awarded.

I built an engineered iEagle for combat, and my main issue was I couldn't resist shaving weight off here and there over time to get just a little more boost I didn't need, until I was finally left with a weaponless, stripped down racer that never races.

I'm with you on it being a beautiful ship!

Small ships wings using wolf pack tactics is probably the most fun you can have in this game. Get some friends in vipers and eagles and go looking for a fight. You'll have such a good time that you will forget all about the pointless rank bar filling up.

Imperial navy pvper here, I have quite a bit more experience flying the ieagle in combat than most pilots I imagine. If I would recommend any loadout based purely on thematics and fun, it would be 2 enforcer cannons with a packhound missile launcher.

That said, as many others here have mentioned, aside from looking cool, the courier does every single thing better than an ieagle. These ships are built for speed, leaving all talk of modules and loadouts aside, the most important thing it comes down to, is you're balancing for size 3 enhanced thrusters, and the courier is 15 tons lighter on its base weight. I can build a combat courier with 1k armor, 600 biweaves, and an 851m/s boost. But the ieagle is so heavy, to do any kind of respectable combat build you have to sacrifice a lot of speed.
