Imperial Fighter - When can we fly it, buy it and hug it???

During the battle of Sorbago I noticed one of these little cuties flying around.

An Imperial Fighter!

It sported twin engines, two weapons, a 'generator' and a 'generator module' (iirc) which I assume is the shield generator and the powerplant and it even had an FSD drive onboard. See image link below.

I was chasing one during combat, while in my Eagle with A-rated thrusters and I was barely able to keep on his six. It was extremely agile!

I truly love the Eagle for it's unparallelled agility in the game, but this thing was EVEN more agile. I want one!

So the big questions remain...

Will it ever be player flyable?
When can we get buy one?
Will it be unlocked or obtainable as part of ranking up with the Empire?

You also see fighters in the Incursion training mission.
First time I saw one, I too thought wow I would like one of those!

Ultra fast and agile, I couldn't hit the damn thing :D

I don't know if we'll be able to fly them, I hope so at some point.

The Imperial and Federal fighters are not flyable. They don't have FSDs either, so they wouldn't be able to go very far.

They do need to make them a lot tougher though, they are pathetically weak for something that supposedly superseded the Eagle in a fighter role.

But it does have an FSD... check the 2nd link in my OP. It shows the subsystems listed for the Imperial Fighter.

Maybe an FSD with very limited jump range, but it does have one.

Also, it would be perfect as a fighter to put inside your Anaconda's docking module (read last line of the description of Anaconda ingame) instead of a Sidewinder.

I do believe we'll get them at some point.. But, it won't be before ships such as the Anaconda get their fighter bays (Launches fighters up to the size of a Sidewinder). Both the F-63 Condor (Federal fighter) and the Hunter (Imperial fighter) are by mass and dimensions, smaller than a Sidewinder and neither are jump capable.. So it would make sense to carry them in a bigger ship.

They are both weak in terms of defense, but they can out turn an Eagle.. They are not meant to replace the Eagle as a whole... But they are cheaper, lighter and smaller so they make more sense as a "point defense" or "interception" fighter for larger ships or small incursions than an Eagle.. Which is also self-sufficient.

Because if you look at the official "spec sheet" images, they say they aren't capable of jumping. Also, it's quite apparent, at least to me, that NPC ships can have/do things that we can't.. Such as an Eagle with 3 rail guns with full shields and seemingly having no power loss or heat gain. I could be wrong, sure... But if the official art and lore of the ships say it, I'm going to believe it.
