Imperial Navy Flotilla Piracy

After it came to my attention that the Imperial Navy flotillas in SSS were guarding type 9s I've been trying to pirate them for the past few days. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=142335

The quality of goods that the type 9s have seems to be somewhat in relation to their escort, if they got 1 vulture they have basically nothing.

2 wings of 7 (so 14 ships) has been the largest starting escort I've seen so far.

Its not really went very well, and as always with piracy its not worth the money if thats all you are interested in.

Tried this by myself but that was insane, so there has been 4 of us giving this a go. We had a FDL, clipper, vulture and asp.
Shooting the cargo hatch to 0% only dropped 1T of cargo, very disappointing.

So everyone got a cargo hatch limpet launcher and loaded up on limpets.

Tonight we were able to have some success and completely looted 3 type 9s. Took a while, quite a few imperial anacondas to sort out, getting the limpets through the 2-3 point defense was the most difficult thing. Did I mention it took quite a while? Reinforcement anacondas, vipers and eagles kept turning up.

Heres a few pics :)

This one is of the second loot drop from one of the type 9s. You can see some of our shields are low:

The Panite and Hefnium seemed to always be the last thing to fall out.

The bounties we got from killing the navy ships (as always) hurts any profit you might get:

My share of the loot that I was able to scoop, the other guys were able to get more than me:

We got 27000cr per ton of Panite and 56000cr per ton of Hafnium

It was something new to try, and fun was had by all :)

I did a few of these, the antiquities site is better as they are both more valuable and have less guards however the principle is the same.

The only thing I thinks strange about this is in a game where you can make 7mil/hr trading, and 5 bounty-hunting, they felt it necessary to have a transport guarded by 10 large military vessels contain 100k worth of stuff, you could fit what a military T9 carries in a viper. They should have at least 20+, especially as its group content essentially.

Couldn't agree more.
We might have made 1/2 a million between us, I sold about 75000cr worth personally, and had a 58000cr bounty to pay off and 27000cr in hull damage.
I might have killed 8 anacondas, if I did that at a res site I might earn 400,000 - 1,200,000

Cool thread. Lone-wolfing, I see these convoys but know there's nothing I have that will get to them. As far as game lore is concerned, maybe the convoys are carrying VIPs. Rich people take all sorts of crap with them in their travels, which is the point of being rich. As far as game mechanics are concerned, tack this memo to the column under Gameplay Imbalances and chalk it up to newfound wisdom.
