Newcomer / Intro Imperial Navy Missions - how to find?

...is there a trick to finding them? I assume its only Friendly stations (green ones), and obviously, in Imperial space! But other than that, are there any params, like population, economy type, etc?

No, you just have to get your secret Navy score up to a certain level by doing missions etc for Imperial Minor Factions. One will come sooner or later, probably later, it is stupidly grindy at the moment.

Getting to the highest rank in interstellar space navy in a few weeks is 'grindy'? :)

No, they will pop up semi-randomly in stations with factions aligned with the Empire.
However, you will have to have successfully executed quite a few BB missions for an Empire faction before. The amount is determined by rank (read more under https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=165258)

The latest FD info says that combat oriented missions work best.

But even if you have passed the 'secret' threshold for a Navy mission, there is a certain randomness to it. One determinant, however, is the local influence level of Empire factions in that station - the more the better.

One more advice: wait for the right type of mission you take on from the Navy. Some are very hard, some are pitifully easy. Take the later ones :)

Fly dangerously, CMDR!

You could be waiting months to get one. There are threads about going to some sector and doing the charity missions from the BB. Apparently the only way at present to make progress in a reasonable time.

A few weeks ? No chance ! That was the pre-1.3 ranking which was stupidly easy. You might get the 1st 2 ranks in a couple of weeks of grindy, not the highest rank.

Attempting to achieve a goal in a game by constantly repeating the same boring thing over and over is pretty much the definition of grindy. It doesn't really matter if it takes weeks or months, it's weeks or months of grinding. Yes, you shouldn't become an admiral in a day, but it'd also be nice if you weren't bored out of your skull while doing it, either. This is why I put off ranking up for the moment, they mentioned revamping the mission system so I'm hoping I can do it later when it's fun, or at least less tedious.

I only really want to get to Baron, for the clipper...
Yep, thats why people do it. However, from the looks of the current ranking system, by time you have the rank for a clipper, you will be so rich you wont want one, you will be flying FAS, Pythons and Condas. That is of course assuming you don't just sit and grind charity missions, which will cost you tens of millions. Once you have a little rank, maybe just cross your fingers that the new emperor does a give-away like the last one did.

Now that is worth thinking about.

it certainly is.

Some of the Mobius group are (and have been for several days) working on their rank- as they want the Shiny clipper (what is it that makes people want this thing!).
Anyhow the going is slow, and it slows down more the higher the rank you are.. unless you are aligned with a power play faction that gives ++ reputation (aka faster to rank up).
Check out the stuff below for the TLDR of powerplay

1. Zachary Hudson (Fed Republican) - Pacifier Frag Cannon (tighter spread, lower damage), bonus to bounty payouts
2. Felicia Winters (Fed Liberal) - Pulse Disruptor laser (medium weapon, also causes module malfunction),bonus to influence effects
3. Arissa Lavigny-Duval (Imp) - Imperial Hammer (multishot railgun), 20% bonus to bounties
4. Zemina Torval (Imp) - Mining Lance (combat mining laser), bonus to trade profits
5. Edmund Mahon (Alliance) - Retribution (small beam laser, enhanced heat damage), bonus to trade profits
6. Denton Patreus (Imp) - Advanced accelerator (specialist plasma weapon), reduced weapons cost, reduced munitions cost (in top 10)
7. Aisling Duval (Imp) - Prismatic Shield Generator (strong shield), increased influence bonus

8. Li Yong-Rui (Independent) - Pack-hound rack (salvo "drunk" missile launcher), reduced ship insurance, higher explorer payouts (in top 10)
9. Archon Delaine (Independent) - Crypto Scrambler (Burst laser, more shield damage, no hull damage), lower bounties/fines
10. Pranav Antal (Independent) - Enforcer Cannon (lower fire-rate, more damage), more influence change, higher bounty payouts (in top 10)

I was with the disney princess for a few weeks (as i went out exploring) came back from SagA*,and i did a few days of merit and rep grind and took a few shields off her for some of my ships, then defected. I`ll probs return after a month of so, in order to boost the rep grind, if only for that fact alone. Then jump faction again in order to rep up in the Fed space, as being an enemy faction is asking for interdiction!

Remember you only need rank 3 (easy to get) and be with the faction for 3 (seemingly VERY long) weeks, to qualify for their weapons/ shields etc.
However, if you want really good rep bonus (+100%) then the rank 5 may be a lot harder to grind for, unless you take a few friends and undermine the enemy factions together, which is much more fun, and makes it a lot quicker.

Fly safe and rep up

Interesting, but influence isn't what you need to rank. Reputation would be closer, but it isnt that either, it's a third unlisted value.

Influence makes it easier to gain allied, which in turn gives better missions (also combat/trade + exploration ranks) and the theory behind it damn convoluted... the simply math is do loads of stuff for them!

After reading the (re) edited version it seems that snipped has popped up.

Naval progression is not proportional to your reputation, as long as you stay higher than Neutral.
To gain higher ranks you need to do “work” for the minor factions affiliated with Federation or Empire to accumulate “faction experience/skill points”. Theoretically any activity that makes money will also increase your experience, but currently there might be bugs affecting BH and trading, so missions are still the way to go, charity missions being better.

Check out the very long thread on this https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=165258
