I've seen this too, in an Imperial Navy fleet. It's not right is it? (I think there needs to be some sanity checks on this sort of thing.)

Rival nations buy and steal equipment and designs off each other all the time. Why wouldn't the Empire have a few captured or smuggled federal navy ships running patrols after they've been reverse engineered and studied? Nice way to gloat after the fact too. I haven't seen any Federal Imperial Clippers though, have you?

I was thinking the other way around; captured dropship but the empire crew forgot to install the right IFF transponders...

I bumped into the same thing today. It turned out to be General Echo or whatever his named turned out to be who I was supposed to blow into oblivion. I'm not sure why he wasn't marked for me. Missions have been generally buggy for me lately for some reason.
