Imperial Rank Progression: Knight

So I'm trying to improve my rank with The Empire, and I must say its going pretty well. The first few missions have been relatively easy and I'm feeling good about doing the next one.

My mission is called ´War Precept in Irkalla´
Kill 4 pirates in the Irkalla system. No problem.

I park my T6 and dust off the Asp, fitted to make easy prey of a small handfull petty thieves. Head of to Irkalla in seach of USS's and what do I find...

Loads of clean sidewinders and a whole bunch of transporters with no cargo. Hm..

Its been 2 hours and more USS's that I can count. Am I doing something wrong? I even got interdicted once by a sidewinder with a clean status. Killed him, still nothing.

Oh, and btw.. why is it that you can seach for a USS for ages, and then suddenly you find 4 at once!? Is there a special trick you guys didn't tell me about?

Log out and log back in and search again. Should find them.

How is rank progression working in the Empire? I'm with the Alliance and we don't have it. Is rank related to the faction reputation?

Tried logging, same deal.

With Rank progression you get missions via the bulletin board called ´Navel Rank progression´ or something of the sorts. Its not related to your faction rep afaik.
Maybe you need better rep to make stuff pop up is the USS's. Heh..

I had this, but the mission was to hunt pirates in 3 systems. After looking for the pirates in the first, I moved to the second, found them instantly.

In my experience, it can sometimes help to jump out of system, then back in. And when I'm pirate-hunting, I always make sure that I have a few tons of valuable cargo loaded - I want to present a nice, juicy target.
I assume that you know about the "slow-cruise" tactic for USSs? You simply fly at minimum Supercruise (30km/s) so that, when a USS appears, it is immediately in range for safe Disengage to... er... engage. Makes for much quicker intercepts

Don't go to USSs for this type of mission. Go to the Nav point. "Pirate" in this case counts as anyone who is wanted by the Empire. Hopefully, Irkalla is an Imperial system so any Wanted target that shows up at the Nav point will count towards your total. If it is an Independent system, it will be pot luck and you will need to KWS people to find those that are wanted by the Empire.

All this should be made clear in game, but it's not...

I managed it via uss's but only because the designated system didn't have a nav beacon. I think you've been a

Just gaze at it a long time and you'll find enlightenment. Supposedly.

Ranking up has never been so easy (in Elite you had to do missions for weeks!) , one successful mission means Instant promotion (unfortunatly ......no Mussorsky or Great Gates of Kiyv playing

Succes!

I jumped to the next system and back and that seemed to do the trick. Got pirates on my second USS. Thx Acarin.

This system has one star, thats it. No Nav. point. or anything else. When I returned the mission there was a simular one, only with 2 different systems. Maybe I should have chosen that instead.
