Newcomer / Intro implications of being Wanted

So, I had some clashes with npcs & police forces and decided to embrace it; my Elite persona is not going to be the galaxy's most law-abiding citizen.
I'm currently flying with a bounty on my head from a remote independent system's security but I feel like I don't fully understand the implications -
and I don't want to find out by .. finding out :D

I understand that in an Anarchy system anyone can use the KWS on me and try to get that currently (a measly) 8k. How is it in, say,
Federation space, in a safe system? Am I right to assume that whenever I see the Wanted status myself in bottom right display, it is
visible to others and vice versa?

And, what happens actually, if I get killed? Because, there's this other thread that suggests I'd have to pay my own bounty upon death?

If you're wanted in an independent system you should still be clean in federation space. But you'll have to take some care plotting routes.

As far as I know death pays bounties - but again I don't know for certain

I think all the player bounties currently are global and not issued to local factions, so you will probably be seen as wanted by NPC's and/or players in all systems except Anarchy.
Also note that the bounty may rise with the time so when you decide that you need to clear it out you may need to pay a large amount of credits. :)

What about stations and platforms - will they try to space you if you have a bounty?
..and above

I don't think so. Coppers don't seem to mind and it's become a habit to enter stations fast or silently.

Platforms tend to be lapse in the scanning lark... If I get a wanted tag I'll lean towards platforms to pay it rather than the big stations

Yes, anytime you see yourself as wanted, it will show up on basic scans. But if you're in a system of a different faction, basic scans will show you as clean, and they would have to KWS you to see your bounty. If someone wants to kill you for that bounty, they're going to get slapped with a 6k bounty on their heads from the local faction. So it's a bit of a deterrent, unless you have a big bounty on your head.
Of course in anarchy systems, everyone is 'clean', unless you KWS them.
