Import your data from Frontier to Inara

Following on from the EDSM set up of flight tracking it appears the ability to link to Inara has gone live.

You can import credits, ships and ranks. It's imported all my ships and locations and even updated locations and recognised ships I've added manually previously. It's really great to be finally able to do this so thanks to the sites owner for setting this up and to FD for allowing it. All I want now is a way to see my flight log in Inara!

It seems you may have to update while in each ship to get full details? I can't check this at the moment.

What the Frontier data import does?
It will fetch your commander data from the official Frontier companion API (cAPI) and updates your credits, ranks, fleet and ship loadout. But, there are some limitations, please see the FAQ below.

Q : Can it be used by console players?
A : Yes, absolutely! That's the main reason why this import is here, to allow console commanders easily import their data without entering all the stuff manually.

Q : Why it does update just credits, ranks and ships?
A : Inara is importing everything possible, but there is no more data (like materials, actual missions, engineers status, etc.) available in the cAPI.

Q : Why is a ship loadout imported just for the actual ship?
A : It's another limitation of cAPI. Please switch your ships and make individual updates while using each of them.

Q : My overall assets value is off. What's wrong?
A : cAPI doesn't contain an exact value of your overall assets, so Inara must calculate it by all your assets. Typically, the difference may be caused by a value of the modules stored (so you may need to enter them manually when necessary).

+100...good news thanks for the update

Agreed – Thank you Inara. If only we could have materials synced in too – it is such a bind having to enter them manually! Maybe this will be possible in the future?

The Inara site says that the cAPI is being worked on and improved so hopefully FDev improves it so we get all the PC features!

Is there a difference for PC with the import journal function you could always do in Inara? (It imports ships, ranks, mats, location, money, etc..)

P.S. Saw its for consoles, sorry..

Hello guys, I am glad you like the update and I would like to just clarify one thing - as mentioned on Inara, the Frontier's auth service may be further developed (and thus there may be some minor issues or a need to re-authenticate), but it doesn't mean that cAPI will be improved as well. The current state we (3rd party tools authors) are working with is that this API is provided "as is" and can be even abandoned. But, of course, things may change. Just don't set your hopes high... :)

Thanks Artie. Appreciate you can only work with what you are given but I think at this stage the information we have is more than we hoped for. Cheers for supporting the console community too.

Fdev more data please!

Yeah, I can finally see all my ships at once with their ship ID so I know what number is next. It always drove me crazy when I forgot what numbers I used.

I believe eventually, we will have the full features, but I am super appreciative of both EDSM and Inara for the features they have now. I keep the updater on EDSM running and when I log off, I do a quick Inara update. This was more than we had a few months ago!

This is a great step forward but I probably won't hook mine up until it can grab mats.

I don't care much about my inara shipyard being accurate, but if it could make my material management easier that would be a huge QoL improvement for me.

In any case great work by the devs who made this.
