Impossible mission, wasted a night of game play.....

Ok...the mission tells me to find 4 experimental chemicals...the mission says they can be found in USS's. I watched for and checked out every USS that spawned for 3 hours straight.
The mission timer expires in 22 hours.
Am I being trolled by FD by the mission objective spawning the last few minutes of the timer?

So far I have checked over 20 USS's in the last 3 hours...that was my gaming time for the night.

If these missions are bugged and wont spawn the mission objectives, it needs to be posted somewhere...with the list of missions that are bugged...so we do not have to waste our time on bugged missions.

Im going to reluctantly bug report this...but by now Im sure FD has a gauge on how terrible their missions are.

I was hoping for better in this update....sad.

It is better in this update. You won't find them completely random in space anymore. ;)

Go to the target system.
Use your discovery scanner or scan the nav beacon (by targeting it in normal space).
You will get an update to your mission showing you a location to go to.
You'll find the mission USS there marked in blue...you'll even get a voice announcement when it is discovered by your sensors.

Ok thanks...I went to the nav beaconj right off and scanned it...got an update, but thought the location was where I had to deliver too...it still says in the mission description that the items can be found in USS's....the changte in plans takes me to a planet.

if this is the case...they need to hash this out better ....

Again thanks Tinman...will go to the updated location to see if I can find these items.

I had this exact mission last night. like Tinman said scan nav beacon in normal space and mission will give you an update on where to find the objective. It works very slick. but be prepared you might get some "company" have weapons ready! Note: objective will be in uss close to planet not on surface usually.

Thank you sir!

What threw me off was the changed location was a planet...but in the mission description, it still says USS...I didnt think that USS spawned planet side, so my mode of thinking was the planet was the updated delivery point....but I see its backwards from what I was thinking...

Some of those missions are actually bugged, and space version doesn't always spawn the mission critical USS. Even if it says it's near a planet, it can be either in space or planetside. If you get into Orbital Cruise range, check your navigation tab. If you see a "Search Site" POI listed there, then you need to go planetside. If it still says USS, chances are you need to cruise around the planet until it spawns. The right USS when is space is a bright blue text one, saying Mission Critical Signal Source, or something along the lines.

Have some rep...and thank you !

To make this mission type even quicker and easier, get an advanced discovery scanner and ping it when you arrive in system. You won't even have to scan nav beacon then.

Also, if you've got a bit of a weaker ship and get company, you can quickly scoop up one or two items and then high wake out before the NPC's start shooting, fly around a bit in the local area which point you'll find the target again, rinse and repeat.

DISCLAIMER: The first time I did this, even though I picked up four items in two target areas, the mission didn't recognise this and I had to abandon it. However, last night I had three NPC's in a wing on me and dropped into three seperate target areas to scoop 1,2 and 1 and handed it in ok

No problem, also a heads up, if you get a planetside salvage mission ( has the horizon icon next to it in the mission board, and says needs SRV) and you get one for more then 4 items (8 usually), the search point might not spawn enough. In that case either leave the planet and come back, or just relog. The search site will reappear (might need to fly to it again) and so will the salvage. So you can complete the mission that way.

It's not quite the same. The discovery scanner will discover everything but you won't have the names of the planets until you use your detailed surface scanner separately on each one. Whereas, scanning the nav beacon will give you those automatically. The advantage of doing it the slow way (discovery scanner and surface scanner) is that you can sell the data to cartographics which will boost your discovery rating (and some small change).

One mission I did had a Sun (not planet) as the target but I couldn't find the USS anywhere around it. I think it might have been a bug or misinformation.

Thank you.

I was running the same mission as Lemon last night and quit after two hours of empty signal sources.

I'll give this a shot next time.
