Impossible to play in CG asteroid rings...

Anyone knows of tweaks that could help fixing the FPS issues in RES?

Whenever I go to a crowded system i get framedrops, If I then go into a RES with people in it, I get down to something around 30 FPS which is just so bad to play with...

Any suggestions?

Running on i7 3770 3.4gHz
8GB RAM
GTX 1050Ti MSI 4GB

Resolution is 1280x768 on a basic HD ready flatscreen

And yes, I know ED doesn't like special edition hardware...

Any suggestions?

You shouldn't be getting a slowdown with those specs.

I run an AMD FX 8320, 8GB DDR3 ram, a regular 1Tb 7200rpm HDD, and a ripe 6 year old AMD HD 6870 1Gb.

I get 60fps at 1080p (basic full HD TV), in space, and in a Res, at medium/high settings.
I does drop to 30~fps on a planet or dock though.
The amount of people or NPC's in the instance doesn't effect my FPS.

Hmm, looking at your specs, the cpu and ram should be fine (although more ram wouldn't go amiss).

Even the 1050ti should be more than enough. The fact it's dropping down to 30 suggests it's vsync related. Try this...
-turn off vsync in the game settings.
-open up the Nvidia control panel,
-goto the settings for Elite (or use the global settings),
-scroll down to the vsync setting, change it to use "Adaptive".

This should allow tearing if the FPS dips below 60 and generally give a smoother experience.

I'm locked at 60 almost always. 4k ultra settings, no changes of any kind. My processor is crap (i5 6402p at like 2.3 Ghz), 8 GB ram. But with a 1080ti.

It would appear this game is very GPU heavy. Probably the fist place to look

Most likely its the p2p multiplayer. The more people in instance the more connections your computer need to do and share/process information from more sources. So your fps and performance can be fine when alone or couple players in same instance with you, but every new player in instance will make the load for hardware much higher, and other peoples "bad" pc/connection and latency will effect your experience. If there is 2 players in instance it means your computer need tpo manage 1 p2p connection if there is 3 players 2, connections, 10 players 9 connections etc. (n-1, were n is number of players in instance) and each of them require same amount of system resources. No matter what pc you have when there start to be many players in same instance the fps starts to drop. The performance in huge player meet ups is horrible, the game become laggy and fps drops, even with I7 6700k, gtx 1080 and 32 gb ram with 30-40 ms latency to servers.

You can't do anything about it, the badly performance is part of p2p networking solution and is reason why games with p2p usually have 12 players max.

Are you playing full screen or borderless window?

One thing that often happen to me is a slowdown in stations or rings, but it gets almost every time up to near 60 when i open up the start menu and go back to the game in borderless window mode. And this works with my gtx 760 on an old phenom 950 with 8gb ram.

I tried almost everything except changing my GPU (ain't got the cash for a 1080...)

I have a ping of 20-40 (checked with command prompt)

So it's not about my network or ISP.

It can't be my GPU since it's quite above the minimum specs, I ran a diagnostic on my SSD, all fine.

Before the last patch I had no such issues, I was running fine at 120FPS in SC and empty normal space. getting 80-100 in CZ or heavy combat in rings.

I am seriously getting desperate here...

oh, and you are sure its not the xbox-apps shadowplay counterpart that activated without your knowledge?

erm... what? so first I play on PC (see OP)

And nope, I never used Nvidia Experience and never installed it, so no shadowplay or other recording software running in background.

If you are running windows 10 there is a crappy xbox app that is always running in the background and can cause issues, if you google uninstalling xbox app win 10 you will find more about it

oh this, I already got rid of it long time ago. So no app running in the background that could lower the frames...

I did the same but the recent windows update to creators or whatever they called it added the new gaming mode and reinstalled the xbox app again so it maybe worth a check

What quality settings are you using? For example, ultra will be optimistic with a 1050 most likely, especially in an asteroid belt. Set it to Low and see what the FPS are.

more specs needed. Could be hard drive related. You shouldn't be having any issues with those three components at that resolution.

-edit-

Misread the 1050 for a 1070, my mistake.

Still, it should be running pretty good at a solid high, Anti-Aliasing and super-sampling off/x1.0
Maybe drop model draw distance down too?

Have you tried a reinstall? Pain in the backside but completely wiping ED and doing a nice fresh install can sometimes work.

Try this:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

Also check what's running in the background when you're playing elite using task manager.
Run your anti virus and malwarebytes anti-malware and cc cleaner.

I don't run ED over steam and already checked file integrity with the launcher. CCleaner did what it had to do and no registry errors and everything works fine.
Reason I am asking I am trying to find what could be wrong after doing all the basic troubleshooting like background tasks, internet/network issues, hardware related bottlenecks, antivirus/firewall issues etc...

I already tried that and even then I get low FPS whenever there is data transfer.

I never had such issues before, and was running in Ultra all the time with a solid 60FPS, maybe a few drops when entering stations but stabilizing a few seconds after entry.

Like I said before, I already tried everything and that's why I am slowly getting desperate as I can't think of anywhere else to look for issues...
