Impossible to run game from STEAM

Yesterday was no problem - I enjoyed space venturing, but today my STEAM launcher says "THIS FRONTIER ACCOUNT DOES NOT OWN ELITE DANGEROUS AND IT'S NOT LINKED TO ANY THIRD PARTY ACCOUNTS" and asks me for Redeem Code but whichever of them I write it goes "Please check and try again". What the hell????

The launcher should have a big button saying "log in with Steam".

If you bought the game recently, you might be able to run the EDLAunch.exe file direct (i.e. no Steam running) and then use your Frontierstore.net email and password to log in to the game (you will need to enter a validation code they send to that email).

If nothing works, just raise a support ticket https://customersupport.frontier.co.uk/hc/en-us/categories/4404016831378-Elite-Dangerous- FDEV Support are top-notch.

Just had the launcher make me redo my steam connection. Which I thought was odd, but it is working.
I think the new launcher has connection problems. I get that so the time. I have found if you just close it and click play again it will work the second time 90% of the time.
Yesterday I had a new problem where it just says "working on it" with a wait spinner and never responds.

This is a common issue with Steam. Close Steam completely first. Login to your Frontier account at https://user.frontierstore.net/ . It should start you out at the Account Information page. At the bottom, click to unlink Steam from your account. Your progress and commander are saved on Frontier's server, so you won't lose anything. After that is done, launch Steam again, and start the game. Steam will give you the opportunity to re-link to your Frontier account. Once linked, you can continue as normal.

This is a Steam issue, Frontier has no control over it. It's one of the many reasons I stopped using Steam for ED.

When this happens to me, I exit steam, wait one minute, reload steam, reopen the game and it usually works. If that does not work then I reboot completely. And if that does not work, then I reboot again and/or check downdetector.com.

Amazon ecs elite servers having hicups and not sending authentication tokens back to steam if i had to hazzard a guess oh the joys of a peer to peer network..............
thats probably why inra sometimes has issues too 🤷‍♂️
so just restarting when amazon is not having a server fart hiccup or hissy fit should sort it
i use ED standalone thus negating those kinda issues which steam isnt really to blame for imo
which is also the reason why the titans often lock up (so attack when fd are in the office to reset things if playing in open:ROFLMAO:)
i think my guesses imo are like DR Spocks🤷‍♂️(which is a big boast on my part even if i do say so myself)

The Inara issue is with the API used, the token simply expires as it's supposed to. The same thing happens with anything that uses that API, including Frontier's own web services. Permanent tokens are a security risk in that regard because third party applications use that same API. I've not seen a third party app that requires a login to use, hence the security risk. Automatic expiration reduces that risk.

The account link issue is different, and should not expire. There's no need to expire it when the requesting application (Steam in this case) already requires a login. Steam is likely botching the link on their end, as automatic expiration wouldn't be so random. It is possible that Frontier or Amazon is botching it on their end, but I'd expect issues with Epic and consoles as well if that were the case. Every time I've seen a post about this issue, it's always Steam.

I can say for certain that un-linking via Frontier, then re-linking via Steam has resolved this issue for me every time I've experienced it (dozens of times). It became a normal routine after the first few times.

I have no issues with Steam overall, I just don't use it for ED anymore. There were too many unique issues with ED via Steam for my liking, so I switched that commander to standalone about 2 months ago. All the unique issues appear to be resolved.

i was just chatting about relinking accounts in another thread 🤷‍♂️
but often just login in out of steam too is just the ticket and restarting when said servers arent throwing a wobbler
