Hi,
I was thinking of a way to make more ships viable for exploration. The first step will be implemented in 1.3 with additional fuel tanks (internal compartment), but it still leaves jump range on some ships, like Orca for example. What I could squeeze out of it is 18.6 ly. It may be enough for "short range" runs, but as you move further from the core even with economic routes it will quickly drain fuel tank, plus scoupable stars will become more rare. And with extra weight of additional fuel tank, range gets even worse.
So here is my idea:
Additional utility mount: FSD Booster.
It works in similar way to Shield Booster, but does not stack:
Type / Weight / Power draw / FS boost / Cost
0E / 0.5t / 0.5 / 10% / 25,000 cr
0D / 1.0t / 1.0 / 20% / 50,000 cr
0C / 2.0t / 1.5 / 30% / 150,000 cr
0B / 3.0t / 2.0 / 40% / 750,000 cr
0A / 3.5t / 2.5 / 50% / 2,500,000 cr
With 0A Booster Orca would do 27.77 ly (with 3.5t booster: 18.51 ly x 1.5) which is more reasonable. With extra fuel it would be 27.12 ly (16t cargo rack 18.08 ly x 1.5).
On the other hand Asp would do 50.8 ly (default 33.9 ly). Annie would do even more, but for that price it's not a big deal. IMO.
As it works now, with higher jump range, economic route saves even more fuel. Additionally as I heard (can't confirm from experience) even now there are system so far from others it's currently not possible to reach them, so my idea might be a solution to that.
What do you think?
