Improved Jump Range

Hi,

I was thinking of a way to make more ships viable for exploration. The first step will be implemented in 1.3 with additional fuel tanks (internal compartment), but it still leaves jump range on some ships, like Orca for example. What I could squeeze out of it is 18.6 ly. It may be enough for "short range" runs, but as you move further from the core even with economic routes it will quickly drain fuel tank, plus scoupable stars will become more rare. And with extra weight of additional fuel tank, range gets even worse.

So here is my idea:
Additional utility mount: FSD Booster.
It works in similar way to Shield Booster, but does not stack:

Type / Weight / Power draw / FS boost / Cost

0E / 0.5t / 0.5 / 10% / 25,000 cr
0D / 1.0t / 1.0 / 20% / 50,000 cr
0C / 2.0t / 1.5 / 30% / 150,000 cr
0B / 3.0t / 2.0 / 40% / 750,000 cr
0A / 3.5t / 2.5 / 50% / 2,500,000 cr

With 0A Booster Orca would do 27.77 ly (with 3.5t booster: 18.51 ly x 1.5) which is more reasonable. With extra fuel it would be 27.12 ly (16t cargo rack 18.08 ly x 1.5).
On the other hand Asp would do 50.8 ly (default 33.9 ly). Annie would do even more, but for that price it's not a big deal. IMO.
As it works now, with higher jump range, economic route saves even more fuel. Additionally as I heard (can't confirm from experience) even now there are system so far from others it's currently not possible to reach them, so my idea might be a solution to that.

What do you think?

A Boeing 747 can't go around the world, and in my opinion, an orca shouldn't be able to go to the center of the galaxy.

This suggestion - while well written - sounds a lot like asking for a hammer that has a special button you can press to make it flip open a screw driver head, when we all have access to screw drivers.

Basically another buff request. If it was done then there would be requests for further boosts and upgrades.
Let FD balance things are they are currently rather than all these suggestions.

Thanks for the replies guys!

What I wrote was more of a suggestion rather than request, as even now any ship can be used in exploration (with some degree of success). I just thought of "levelling the playing field" for explorers, but when I looked at it from bounty hunter's perspective, it makes catching up "high jump" ships even harder (although if you can't catch up now, this "buff" will not help you).

I just thought of Orca being an "executive style explorer" with leather sofas, mood lighting, office with wooden desk, en-suite bedroom, butler etc... Just imagine, you sit comfortably in a sofa, chewing a 15,000cr cigar when your personal butler comes with a drink:

- "Sir, here is your Martini."
- "Thank you James. Oh look, a binary T-tauri system with a black hole. We should take some pictures."
- "Certainly Sir, should I prepare your chambers for the night as well?"
- "Yes, and lower the temperature by 1.5*, it was a bit warm for me last night."
- "Very well Sir."

Ah... I need more money.

As for jump range, maybe something else will happen, let's wait and see.
