Improved P2P ?

I would like to give ED a go again after these past few months, but I am worried if I hit my friends up to join me we are going to experience the same instancing problems we had in the past, which is a major reason we aren't playing. It is completely stupid that we can play so many other games together, but for some reason we cant seem to see each other when we tried ED. Times we could see each other often ended in someone quickly 'disappearing' and this even happened in the middle of combat, generating 'combat logging QQ' threads. The Wings made an improvement, however slight and off balance, but lets be real here, I have more than 4 friends, and if we are supposed to have 32 man instancing then there is no reason 6, 8 or 10 of us shouldn't be able to see each other in otherwise empty zones.

While there is a definite anti social vibe to the ED community (to wit, you are given a block option without a friend option in group menu) there are benefits to well planned, solid multiplayer features which do wonders for a games population and merit with those who purchase and play ONLINE games and it baffles me that this topic hasn't received more attention.

Has ED improved the p2p? It may be that they aren't experienced enough to complete this task, but several entities, to include militaries, use p2p. It works for armed forces, it should work for pretend playtime, right?

How is it working now? Maybe its gotten better?

Yea, 32 was the number limit thrown around a lot, but in reality it's close to 12. At least I've never seen more than that at one time.

The instancing in this game is bad, I think that is part of the reason for CQC. It'll finally give players a way to battle without also fighting instancing problems.

Edit: just realized I didn't answer the question. No, there haven't been any improvements since shortly after release and with wings. If you played after wings, you've experienced the glory that is elite p2p.

I did play after Wings, what a riot that was. You can wing up and wreck some poor chap who thinks playing in open adds 'excitement' and we don't even have to drop in on a wake, instant gang bang. Lols. Balance aside the wings mechanic was the one way to insure we could group up in the same instance, but if the wing disbanded so did the connection, sometimes not so seamlessly. If this is still true it needs must be fixed.

This make no sense to me. You have a multiplayer sandbox with a mere four activities and there is no concentrated effort to enable emergent gameplay made possible by solid connections, rather efforts are spent elsewhere. Why not just go single player?
In my experience anything worth doing is worth doing right.
Again, I am totally baffled why this topic garners such little discussion.
If we don't bring it up it doesn't get dealt with, and there will be an eternity of lackluster discourse about Cobra vs Viper, Pythons nerfs, the Ultimate futility of three game modes and Why we need to land on planets to hunt dinosaurs. None of which are generating the huge, healthy gaming population ED could command.

Except you, you play everyday and are very helpful, but pointing this out is still not helping the basic multiplayer functionality.

instant gang bang. Lols.

My friend, you do realise that some players encourage this, erm, affectionate gently caress, in order to be quite unpleasant in return? For many reports of "WOOP YA! we killed that lone Sidey and showed him who's boss!" there are an increasing number of "WTH do you mean my account is locked?" and the grim inevitability of "I never spent that on my credit card!".

I'm not going to post direct links here as I don't want to get banned. It will take you all of 5 seconds to search it.

I'd guess because a fair proportion of players (like myself) don't play Elite primarily for its multiplayer aspects. I play open, I don't mind a bit of player interaction (of any sort), but I'm not interested in Wings particularly. So (just like PowerPlay) I largely ignore that part of the game and how well it works (or doesn't) doesn't really bother me.

I don't encourage it, but it is. Not a fan, at best solos could use an NPC wing, or take away the insta travel, c'mon Devs, .
As for lawbreakers, Im sure FD doesn't smile on people cracking things, nor do financial institutions or governments, so I'm not going to get my bonnet twisted, I'll let it worry me when it happens.
My point being that the p2p still needs some work is agreeable then? ( In maybe more than the way I mentioned?)

Sounds like your ready then.
You should try playing with friends, friends are awesome! They share trade routes, mineral locations, help out in RES or CZ's, do trading convoys, play blocakade or as bounty hunting mercenary corps, they can make the bad guys look the other way, unless your all in Sideys, then, well, yeah but hey, Im trying to tell you about friends, how they make games better, really breath life into the universe. For any old curmudgeonly dusty farting type men of gentle persuasion try playing with some friends and see how that works for you, and if you cant find any friends try being friendly and see if that works. Group mode is fine and there are friends to make everywhere, when the p2p works.
Besides, the voice comms sound really freakin cool when you chat with your friends in game. Wasted. :(
