improving orrery usefulness

Watching the excellent Bloody Nutter's webcam death-planet video, I was struck with a thought: display white dwarf and neutron star jet cones on the orrery to scale, to see the orbit interactions and proximity.

Hmm. I don't see the suggestion as "useful" so much. It generally wouldn't affect my navigation too much. But it definitely would be pretty, which is why i'd also like it. :)

That was part of original concepts.
That DDF is a gold mine.
Seems FD have gone back to core gameplay and more DDF like development, so there's hope yet that we see more from the DDF that is possible.

Taking off from the DDF concept art piece, the below imgur gallery by tocoso is another good conceptual "what if" set of screens that cover the "pretty" and the "useful".
So much potential with minor faction maps, POI/USS nav, Squadron BGS mucking about, etc.

In the grand scheme of things solar system wise the jet cones of both are actually quite small, tiny even. It would be nice to have it but I suspect some sort of performance issue is involved otherwise why have wire frame planets in the orrery when they already have textured planets in the system view, surely it would be easy to bring them across, so I suspect an issue we are not aware of. There are very few bodies that intersect with the jet cones but knowing the extent of them even with some sort of simplified view would be useful in those cases.
