In 3.0 when you purchase an experimental effect ...

and then do another engineering roll on that module, so you loose the previously purchased effect?

I never did this in the beta.

I would test it now, but I don't yet have all of the required mats to purchase the effect.

Anyone know?

No, the Special Effect is independent of the Mod. You can, at least, rank that Upgrade as you go. I have to say, I'm not sure what happens if you want to change the upgrade to another type, though.

Thanks! Good news!

+rep Edit: Not that you need it.

I would be fairly confident in wagering you loose the effect when changing the engineering type.

I'm really enjoying the post beta engineering so far!

Some things I have observed so far:

When you convert a legacy mod to new system, experimental effect is lost. This only applies to weapons since they were the only legacy mods with experimental effects.

It is possible to replace an experimental with a different one at any time. I'm not sure whether it is possible to remove just the experimental effect. I didn't try switching to a completely different mod on the same module.

You can remove an experimental effect on a current module and it retains the underlying mod.
I swapped a super pen for a feedback effect on a G5 rail and it was as easy can be.

Anyone found a list of new experimental effects including the effect recipes, so i don't have to screen grab every one ?

Just to be 100% clear, I have a G5 FSD with mass manager installed, was planning to head back to Farseer, I thought if I finished maxing my FSD remotely, I'd lose the experimental. So I can keep upgrading?

Yes, you will keep the expereimental.
That's what I've been doing with all my legacy modules.
I just do one mod and the expereimental, and finish them remotely with the pinned blueprint.
You can even change the experimental at any time, or just remove it.

Keen to hear about alternative effects on the fsd. I’ve got mass manager too. It’s good but not tried anything else yet.

Wow, then that makes up for whatever 'extra' grind may have been added!

I used to hate applying a special effect because I was always positive that the next roll would be better, or when I did get an amazing roll but didn't have the favor available to buy the special effect (or just clicked on too fast and missed the opportunity), or got the amazing roll not realizing how amazing it was until 10 rolls later. I was haoping that we'd one day be able to separate special effects from the grades!

I've been making much use of this today; converted all the Dirty Drives on my fleet and have it pinned, so no longer have to go back to Palin except for Clean Drives.

I have just lost an experimental by remote engineering, as follows:

- Went to Nemo, put Overcharged grade 1 on a frag cannon
- Applied Screening Shot experimental
- Went to Mats Trader station
- Change Overcharged grade 1 to Rapid Fire grade 1
- Lost Screening Shot experimental

Apart from being a warning to others, could I just check:

I am in the same situation with other frag cannons. If I now go back to Nemo and go through the same conversion (from OC to RF) at his base rather than remotely, I am right in thinking that this way I will keep my Screening Shot, aren't I...?

I would have expected swapping the primary to always reset the experimental, whether done remotely or at the base.

No. Changing the blueprint always drops the experimental. Upgrading an existing blueprint does not remove an experimental. Another tidbit, you can't add an experimental at an engineer if you have raised the grade of the blueprint higher than that specific engineer offers. For example, you have Dirty Drive pinned from Palin, you upgrade some thrusters remotely to G4 then find yourself in Felicity's neighborhood and decide to stop by and add drag drives. It doesn't work, but if it was grade 3 or less it would have as she offers that.

If you use a different blueprint the whole module is reset.

After upgrading to Grade 1 FSD increased range then applying mass manager. You can safely to continue to upgrade to grade 5 in that increased range blueprint remotely.
If you remotely changed the FSD to another blueprint like faster boot sequence remotely or at an engineer the whole module gets reset and grade 1 of the new blueprint is applied.

This. If you have already max rank with an engineer, just add a G1 mod, add the experimental, pin it and leave. You can just max your entire ship on the go. :D
