In an SRV, If my Ship Dies,do I Die?

Like the title. If my ship dies and I'm in an SRV, is there any way to survive? I am trying to drive to a city/settlement now, but expect that the answer is no.

I think it was mentioned that in the beta 1 patch notes for 2.0 that the player's ship is invulnerable while you are away from it. So, right now we aren't sure I guess?

My ship is out of oxygen; canopy breeched. I escaped in the SRV. I don't think there's a way out of this.

Field repair kits are supposed to fix canopy damage now... but I assume that doesn't cover one that's actually blown out? (or does it?)

Basically you'll be able to stay alive in your SRV as long as you keep finding fuel, but once you're dead in the SRV you'll be back in your airless ship.

I say this requires a test! Now all you need is a willing victim with a field repair unit to test it.

Just to end the story. I drove to the settlement. When I was 7km outside, I called my ship, which I left, landed, at 25km. The ship arrived, and I got back in. When I got in, all systems were good. The canopy was secure. There was no oxygen issue. So I took off, and planned to land at the settlement. As soon as I took off, I was kicked out of the game. When I returned, I was placed back in my ship, 75km from the settlement, with the breeched canopy, and 3 minutes of oxygen, just like it was before I set it down and escaped, the first time. So I initiated self destruct.

I dont' think that location was the last saved location, because I got kicked out of the game about 4 times driving to the settlement. I am surprised I was placed back in the game so far back in time and space.
