One thing that really bothered me was that most of the Guardian stuff was offline on forums and youtube. A big event and most of it isn't even in the game itself. Then you have the fuel rats, which somehow has advertisers on stations, but it's really outside of the game. Same for expeditions.
I'd really like to see an in game in character message board accessible from within the game.
1) As mentioned, fuel rats and other such services would have an in games means of communication.
2) People starting expeditions could be arranged within the game universe, and private boards would allow keeping secret meeting points to avoid pirates.
3) Frontier could use the boards for storytelling and expanding on the in game galnet messages making them more interactive. In game public figures might have a presence and begin storylines.
4) It could also allow for more player driven storylines and events (other than expeditions).
The galaxy is huge, so you're not always going to have other players near by, (in my case hardly ever), so a message board would be a great way for people to communicate and actually feel like I'm in a populated galaxy. It would have to be highly moderated of course, which could be a problem.
