An actual camera module for taking detailed photographs of anomalies, geological formations, alien plant life, thargoids, enemy installations etc.. they could be used as mission objectives for exploration/scouting roles. Maybe even have an on foot version of the module as well. Perhaps one day the pictures we have taken could even be used as in world decorations.

It might be neat to launch a probe which is basically a torpedo but with a set of gimballed cameras all over it plus detailed scanners. Could take pictures from many angles, auto scan a planet, etc. Instead of calling it a probe they might call it a planet scanning limpet.

Well we already have "research" limpits, so it could be viable if the conditions were right. I do like the OPs suggestion though as it would be yet another reason to go explore. Perhaps even pictures of the biological life could be submitted to be displayed inside of a stations bio research shop
I rolled my eyes until I got to the part about them being displayed in shops all over. then I was excited. Then I thought about how they would need to pay some guy to spend time looking over these do to the games ratting because I promise you people will find a way to make less than appropriate photos.
