in game elite affiliate plan?

As a way to bring new players into elite, has frontier considered offering existing players an affiliate plan?

Before anybody jumps down my throat about making this a business opportunity this idea doesn't have to be real world money orientated! For an example if a player invites two or three friends to try elite then he gets an in game bonus of 500 credits per person!

If everybody was to do this the elite universe would quickly explode and the 100 billion star map wouldn't feel quite so gigantic!

nice idea, personally i'd do the same for free but i could see it being popular.

the only issue i can see is people attempting to cheat to get more game cash but that could be addressed by adding a maximum number of rec's per person per month.

yeah I see what you mean about the possibility of abuse but there must be some way from players to benefit from promoting the game!

This is not a bad idea to encourage the spread of the good word.

To combat the abuse:

- For every friend you recommend who signs up and purchases the game digitally from FD you get a point
- You can spend these points in the vanity micro-shop:
-- New skins
-- New decals
-- Fluffy dice
-- Different coloured lasers / beam weapons
-- Different smoke trails from engines
-- Different GFX effects when you spin up your engines

The list list endless - as long as it's linked to a vanity item any abuse is not game changing.

I'm sure a recruit-a-friend system would work. Vanity item rewards rather than in-game credits is another option.

You could also have some special decals that are only available if you get 5 referrals. People would no doubt just post for random referrals on various forums, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

It will only be worth FD's while if these referred people buy the game rather than just try it and therefore continues to play it for a minimum amount of time.
Maybe the more that they play, the larger your prize.

But am sure we have all let all our friends know that Elite is coming out - I know that I have!

I've pretty much told all my friends already (and the internet at large in the forums i hang in), all for free, because well....this is Elite (4, technically) and that deserves to be spread around.

The reward comes in getting more people playing/buying the game, which means more money for FD and more support for the game, which is my reward.

yeah but wouldn't it be nice just to get something for nothing just for getting people to buy the game? I like the idea of having them try the game to get one point and then possibly another three or four points if they buy it!

Buy the game from FD yes.

Try the game no ... fake accounts - open to abuse.

From what I understand, E:D is not a pay to play game. If you want your friends to try it, invite them over. Let them try it. If they like it, they can buy it.

You can make video's of your game play and let them watch. They do not have to actually play a different commander for them to get a feel for the game.

No trials accounts means no trial commanders with which to assist in the acquisition of wealth by piracy or trade or to assist in senseless mayhem so common in other games where quantity over quality is the prevailing factor.

The only way a trial of the game could work is in offline mode rather than anything that will affect the universe for the rest of us. But I do understand if they prefer not to have a trial version.

Exactly. The whole pit-trap of any kind of monietization can be seen across countless other MMO games. It always get's exploited, you always get the Gold Farmers, you always entail massive running overheads on your game just to keep these things under control. The main upshot is that most monietized games fail, you can go pull the figures on that. Sure you get the odd massive hit, but the overheads on those games are massive just to keep them functional and viable.

I was reading an article on gamasutra (i think, i read lots of games industry websites) about Puzzle Dragons (whatever that latest hot potato F2P game is) and they have daily operational costs that would have bankrupted the game IF it was not a freak hit.
