In-Game Facial Animations for Immersion and Roleplay

This trailer with the commanders facial expressions and moving mouths when they talk is very cool. Facial expressions should be available in-game.

In-game facial animations are very important for better role-playing, social interactions and to make better videos (machinima). Because it's unrealistic and breaks immersion if the mouth doesn't move when we speak.

For example:
- when a player speaks via his or her microphone, then the character's mouth would automatically move at the same time.
- Press a button to show a character animation to express specific emotions.

This has been done in other MMOs and contributes a lot to make high quality machinima and immersive roleplay. Such user-made videos would help to freely advertise Elite Dangerous for free.

Such as in Grand Theft Auto V, it adds very entertaining social interaction.

A more advanced method is a webcam that can track the face of a player and display it on an in-game character. Such as EverQuest II: SOEmote which was released in 2012.

Can't argue that would be awesome. A big concern would be game performance though and of course the basic fact, that times when Commander avatars come into visual contact with each other are pretty limited in the game - at least for now. Would be interesting to see it rigged into to the camera suite though, so on your own ship and not interfering with P2P net traffic, you could do Commander's Log videos. Looks to camare and says, a big +1

Yeah, it's funny how requests for features come up in 'clusters'. A few weeks ago we had a bundle of requests for Player Guilds/Player Owned corporations from different Commanders, but all within a few days of each other.

The collective unconscious at work? :)

It's the Star Citizen effect. It's something they're planning to do in the next 5 years. Being the only interaction in this game is someone sitting in a chair behind me, I guess this idea is as useful as a fart in a hurricane.

Eloquently put  But true at this stage in the game. Also a bit redundant for VR users which I will call....The zombie Cmdr's.

Flimley
