In-game Gigantoraptor hunting behavior

I kinda already said this in the Gigantoraptor’s Species Field Guide thread, but I think this is a better space for feedback.

My feedback is that while it is my number one top favorite dinosaur in its pack (next to Tarbosaurus), I didn’t like that Gigantoraptor can’t predate anything in-game because I thought all of the four dinosaurs in the Predator Pack will have predation behaviors in-game, and that none of their predation descriptions would just be only real-world information trivia. So, I’m suggesting adding that behavior for it, at least for goats and maybe people, if it isn’t planned and if such a thing can be done for DLC exclusive dinos of course.

(For those who don’t know, just so there’s clarification, all the descriptions for the (real) dinosaur species in databases and promotional material are solely about the real things, and not the in-game species behavior or whatever in-game. They confirmed that before JWE2 launched in the Dimorphodon thread.)

It's definitely strange to release a species as part of a predator pack, but not have it hunt anything. Like you said, even if it was just goats and the visitors, at least give it the ability to hunt something.

Well, like I said, I thought all of the four species would have predatory behavior because of the dino pack's name, as that's what all large theropods that can eat meat (minus fish) can do.

It's technically not wrong though, because the descriptions for this dinosaur do say it can hunt prey, as it may have done, because they talk about the real-life dinosaur and not the in-game dinosaur. Because like I also said, Frontier confirmed in the Dimorphodon thread, before the game came out, they add additional information about the real animals, not what's to expect in-game. Remember that. And lots of other games, especially zoo/park type games in this context, always do this with the descriptions of their animals anywhere. I was just initially a little disappointed when I first heard that it didn't and just wanted to provide feedback and a request afterwards.

I just learned they fight small armored herbivores by default, my huayangosaurus I wanted to share their exhibit with are preferred over their feeders.

So they do "hunt", but they focus on the small armored herbivores that they could fight. I think they could fight bigger herbivores armored herbivores too, which I want to try out if I get the time. Still, I think their being able to hunt the more defenseless small herbivores, goats, and guests would be a plus.

Interesting. So, there is some kind of predatory behavior to them, in that they "Fight" certain armored herbivores, but they don't "Hunt" smaller things they can instantly kill and/or swallow down.

Pretty much, all the huayangosaurus were one-shotted by the gigantoraptors in the enclosure (but one is still alive and spared by the gigantoraptor). The fights were not a result of cohabitation, discomfort, or storm, they just really wanted to kick down the tiny stegosaurs for their next meal.

I think this helps the overall appeal of the gigantoraptor being more of a carnivore than an opportunistic scavenger. As you mentioned, it would be more appropriate if they hunted smaller prey like goats, guests, tiny herbivores, small herbivores, and maybe some of the small carnivores and scavengers. Their cohabitation may be updated to include sauropods and hadrosaurs into their likes if they will never hunt/fight them.

I still have a hunch they would fight triceratops, stegosaurs, iguanodon, and other large herbivores which I need to check myself. I was hesitant that the gigantoraptor may be too good of a dinosaur to house in your park, but seeing how they fight a lot of other dinosaurs, their rating is appropriate for the species (but I think they should require more space as you could house a dozen of them with the humble trait leader no problem in an enclosure that would barely satisfy 7 stegosaurs).

While Gigantoraptor doesn't hunt, it does feed on the bodies of its victims, as well as dine on carrion, which is a good balance. A goat/small dinosaur hunting animation would be nice, though, watch it go secretary bird on them.

Assuming they may do something, I don't think they'll do small dinosaur species that can be "hunted" and not "fought" because who knows how many players are already or will be mixing the thing with such dinosaurs outside (modified) Sandbox mode. I don't think Frontier is or will be that "unfair", ever. If you know what I mean.

I get your piont, but as matter of fact, a BIG creature (10 times the wight of a "Terrorbird" !!!) that is able to feed on meat to survive would 100% for shure kill and eat small dinosaurs and animals.
....Especially when it is even able to kill an Apex Predator like T-rex !
ALL omnivore Animals feed on every pray they can kill if they have no other options which are easier to get.
A Gigantoraptor that feeds on a T-Rex but letting 100 goats run around it looks just bonkers...lol

Funny enough I was going to say this I really want it to be added
