Yesterday, I had a terrible accident. I was assigned a landing pad directly beneath the docking slit. Upon take off, I noticed another player out side the station. While moving upwards to fly through the slit, I targeted the player ship (Lakon Type 6) to have a better awareness of his position.
Then, rather suddenly, we both appeared in the slit at the same time, with me not yet fully aligned to my "green" side. I tried to evade as soon as I noticed, but could not avoid a glancing collision. Probably, my Python's tail is too wide for this.
While my own shields took an small amount of damage (outer ring slightly bleaker), I heard "Target destroyed" and some explosion behind.
As this was not a strong collision in my memory, I am wondering, why the other player got destroyed? High speeds? Low/no shields?
The only thing, I wanted to say at that time, was of course:
I am sorry for this accident and setting you back 1 MCr for you ship and your Cargo (if any).
But unfortunately, there is no way, to communicate post mortem, neither for apologizing nor for congratulating (in case of a combat win). This should change in the future, probably, by making escape pod visible for 30? seconds an able to receive/send communications.
BTW: some minutes later, I was careless during docking and hit the slit grating, setting me back 5 MCr (Insurance+Cargo). Ouch.
