In-game public communication network

A lot of the communication concerning this game is based around the forums, or even third party programs. I'd love an in-game forum or something similar where people can put out requests for support, teammates, squad advertisements, and most important, role-playing. My friends and I have trouble immersing ourselves in this game when you have to browse google to answer any questions you have. Yes, you can use the chat feature in populated areas, but it's limited and with a game where maybe 1/100 systems you visit might have another person, it's basically useless if you have a quick question someone else in the community can solve.

As for role-playing, there's canonically in game networks of communication like this, but players have no access to them. would be a blast to have something to browse through and examine on those long hauls. Might even be a good place to hide lore that's not easily communicated through the news system.

I think it'd be a cool addition.

Yes! Let us search the internet in-game. Wait, we should be able to search the in-game internet using an in-game internet!
Reddit in 3308, let's gooo!

It's a cool idea but I'd rather they looked at Discord or some other apps integration.

Given the right API you could do all of that with existing third-party software in game, as an overlay or using the chat function.

Any in game communication would need to be written and will always be substandard when compared to 3rd-party products like Discord.

I have been in games where voice is available in game, but even then is rarely used. If someone speaks in a pug dungeon in NWO (for example) I usually immediately put them on mute as it is generally going to be more toxic than the ED forum anyway.

At least using the (somewhat limited, granted) text chat in game, I can choose to be involved or not. Not against comms in games, just haven't found a game that does it very well and usually end up resorting to 3rd-party apps anyway.

I find the voice comms in ED to be acceptable. I usually only use it with two to three of my other friends and it has worked quite well for us.

Running discord simultaneously with ED is problematic for some with older hardware.

I do like the effects added to voice in ED, it's just that discord is better overall
Honestly? Even though I know Discord is more convenient, I'd rather use the in-game comms for ED because of the added radio effects. What I wouldn't give to find some serious ED roleplayers who are willing to get onto the in game voice comms and talk like it's real for a couple hours.

I remember last year, Sally talked about including a community board in-game so everybody can post their own mini-events. I thought it would be a good a idea.

That would be a great idea.

There's a couple of active discords but just something in game would be great.

Kind of like the bulletin board in FFE

I don't really see the point of implementing something that already exists. I would rather have them focus on making things that actually add something to the game, rather than recreating things we already have outside the game and you can just easily Alt+Tab to.

If you HAVE to alt+tab to enjoy a game, isn't it missing something? The community, me included, can want more than one feature at the same time. it's not a zero-sum game. I also want new ships, especially side-grades. Doesn't stop me from wanting this too. It's not like if they work on a global chat system they have to halt all other production.

It's unlikely they're powering through one content update at a time either. Most likely many updates are being worked on at any one time. sure, some are more of a priority, but it's not like having them on the list of "content the fans want" somehow excludes other content from being on there.
