Proposal Discussion In-game record function

Most flight simulators, such as Rise of Flight, Il2: Cliffs of Dover etc allow you to record the game within your instance. This is not limited like we see with Fraps and the like, but will record your video and then within the game you can go back later and review it, not only from the first aspect, but also free-form, 3rd person and more.

This is useful and I actually think it would be dearly loved and needed for two reasons:

1. Ability to analyse an encounter after the fact: Imagine you're crusing through an asteroid belt and despite cautions you always seem to get pounced on, with this recorded you'll be able to analyse after the fact. This isn't far fetched, I think they do this in the military during exercises, go over an encounter and see where things went right and wrong.

2. Fan made stories:

Watch these video's through and I think you'll understand what I am trying to achieve with this request:

Wings over Troubled Waters

Battle of Britain - The Kanalkampf

Battle of Britain Day - The Blitz

Thank you for your time, and please offer all feedback, obviously this isn't a request to be placed in game at release, but some point after :).

I think this is an excellent idea, especially as you could have some loop buffer always recording and hit a key to dump that to file and then continue recording for those "huh? what happened then?" moments.

Play with bandicam, it works really well on the lesser systems.
You might enable more of the GPU settings than are defaulted.

Note that I took the OP to mean not a video recorder, but a data recorder. It being the latter means you can change Point of View on replays to really see what happened.

Yes, a bit like the action that you see after a race in MarioKart etc. If you think that it could be immersion breaking for you then, all you need to do is when docked at a port, take a download from your ship to the holo suite and the computer takes the data that was recorded and fills in the gaps to show you what happened and you have the chance to move your virtual camera around and fast forward or play in reverse etc
This activity is done at the dock as it also gathers any useful information from other docked ships and can be used as a money sink by charging credits for the use of the suite.
Apart from just being a training tool, you can use it to record your own experiences to share with other pilots - a possible commodity to trade (yes, I know that there is nothing stopping people just recording the action for youtube etc but unless you spend credits, that action will be from the cockpit view only)

I did read a thread where someone mentioned 'Shadowplay', which I understand is a 5min loop recording provided by your Nvidia graphics card.

Check out this thread or do a search for Shadowplay.

You can set it up however you like. There are four modes, actually, one where it records up to 20 minutes of gameplay and once you press a key combination it will save it to your HD, a manual mode where you can start and stop the recording whenever you like and record gameplay segments as long as you like (within the limits of the HD it saves to). Then there is a combined mode where Shadowplay is active in moments you switch manual recording off or Shadowplay is off when you switch manual recoding on. The fourth mode will stream directly to twitch.tv if you've got an account there.

However it is only available from GTX 650 cards onwards. Older or lower powered cards do not support it, as they don't have the encoding chip on their board.

Thanks for the replies, never checked Bandicam or Shadowplay before, but this isn't what I am asking for as an in-game recorder can allow for the entire instance to be recorded and viewed later.

Perhaps this will make it clearer:

Playback

Now I hope this makes a little more sense.

Another video here.

That would be an awesome feature. Ever since I've read the debate about outside cameras, I only dream of such a feature. I don't care about outside camera while piloting (though on longer "dull" flights, it can be entertaining), but a recorder which would make possible to study any awkward moments, or combats, or just give the pleasure of viewing things under any angle, that would be fantastic and would provide room for much creativity and education in understanding the game's mechanics.

So yes, i definitely support this idea. a big +1 from me.

So you would like to have something more akin to .trk files recorded in DCS:World for example, where the actions of every unit are recorded, a replay file so to say.

It's basically the same feature that you have in any racing game as another common example.
