In-game time showing as incorrect

Hi,

Since the clocks went forward the other week, the ingame time is now an hour out. I've spent ages going through the options in the game and also in the system settings on my PS4 to see what's caused this but I can't find anything. Does anyone know how to fix it? It's very frustrating to have the wrong time constantly displayed.

Thanks.

The time comes from the severs which are based in the UK, ( so Im gussing it should be showing 8:12 at time of posting, im in Sweden so were an hour in front of the UK.) and I dont think there is a way of changing the in game time, on any platform.

well, you be aware that your environment is the galaxy, not a planet, nor a country.

the time you see is the galactic time which is the same for everybody in the game.

actually, we did start this while ago, when steam locomotives been developed and all cities had different times ...

As was already said, game "galactic" time is based on UTC.

And consider yourself lucky that the in-game clock correlates to your local time at least for half of the year, we people outside the GMT zone always have a "wrong" time showing.

The perks of a UK developer, we need some. :) (It still doesn't make up for the avatars the US guys got for pre-order though) ;)

Thanks to all that replied, and sorry it's worse for others, obviously had no idea it was setup so badly or that it had been discussed before. I just assumed it was a problem on my console and something I could easily fix, seems not ;-(

However it still doesn't fix the bug. I play the game in solo mode and therefore not affected by what anyone else does. We should have the choice to set the correct time. Utterly pointless showing it incorrectly, does not help at all.

Just seems a bit crazy that the game has countless options on how to steer etc. and do so many things but not to correct this pointless bug.

The time is not incorrect. This is not a bug. The game has used UTC for in-game times since its inception and will continue to use it for a coordinated galactic time forever. This is the same time standard used by NASA, the ESA, Russia's space agency, China's space agency, India's space agency, and every other scientific establishment on this planet. It is something that should honestly be taught in secondary school (it's not in the US, at least, but I wish it were).

And as far as solo mode not affecting anything goes... Solo mode shares the same galaxy and background simulation (BGS) as open and private. Because storyline stuff is revealed through manual updates to the galaxy assets and BGS, this cannot be independent for solo players and is part of the reason why Frontier had to reneg on their promise for an offline mode.

There is A bug with the time on PS4 though, as inbox time doesn't match the in game clock time, its out by around 7hrs for me.

Other than the "181 DEC" bug, inbox timestamps are local time on PC as well. That's intentional from what I understand (I think the API/journal entries use specific timezone references for timestamps), but I agree with Shadowdancer that it should be changed to UTC the same as all other in-game events.

Chat being in local time is AFAIK intentional. Look, I'm all for switching it over to a Unix timestamp counter everywhere.

The point of the bug it that the inbox isn't (local time) its neither UTC (game clock time) or local time for me (I am in the UK so it should be UTC+1), Its UTC+7. It only happens on the PS4, on the PC version its fine. There is some issue with the PS4 timing.

If you watch my video, that's actually before the clocks change, look at the game time, and then look at the inbox, they should be synced. I am in the UK. (or they should only be out by one hour, after the clocks change), they are still out by 7 hours.

I have only just started playing this (amazing) version of Elite, first time since I played it sometime in the early Eighties on a Speccie and C-64 I think it was. So not aware of its UTC obligations etc.

At the end of the day, the displayed time is incorrect. Even if it has to synch up with someone on the other side of the planet who I'm not even playing with or against, there should still be an option to modify the displayed time, which would be especially useful for poeople who have it worse than I do.

So if it is a feature, it doesn't work / display properly. The time is showing as wrong as far as I am concerned, in which case it IS a bug.

Just give us an option to fix the display time. Then stick a +1 or -1 or whatever next to it to denote that it is adjusted. Not rocket science. Unlike the rest of the game. Ha bl**dy ha.

My mistake. That's still a separate issue than the OP is about, though.

That's interesting, I'm in GMT+1(+daylight saving time) and my inbox time is, as far as I paid attention to it, correct.
