I'm a sandbox player. I don't like the idea of game assets being locked away behind a long money grind, and take a positive interest in the latest get-rich-quick schemes.
But I understand that other players are RPGing their way through the game; for them easy money undermines the very idea of progress on which their game depends.
Board-hopping - which I gather was never intended to be a game mechanic and persists because FDev can't or won't prioritise an overhaul of the mission servers - turns out to have become a way in which both groups of players can have a fair measure of what they want.
Want easy money? Board hop.
Want your progress in the game to be a result of steady effort? Don't board hop.
Think board-hopping should be blocked to kill off the easy money opportunities? That'll spoil the sandboxer's game.
Think mission payouts should be greatly increased so you don't have to board-hop? That'll spoil the RPGer's game.
Possibly there could be an option for players to set a limit of one or two times for mode-changing in stations, so that RPgers could mode-change to accept requests to join other players but otherwise put themselves beyond temptation.
Apart from that, by accident we seem to have blundered into a system that, inelegant as it is, kinda sorta works for everyone; maybe we should keep it.
