General / Off-Topic In praise of critical thinkers on the forum

There are a number of excellent critics of ED that have explained clearly and objectvely to Frontier where they have gone wrong in terms of the game and in particular its gameplay and lack of storyline.

Frontier have now accepted that the game is incomplete and lacks quality in numerous areas, with even Obsidian Ant becoming a very harsh critic of the game in recent times!

Criticism is essential to progress in any walk of life, and these critics are clearly doing a sterling job and pointing out to Frontier some essential truths that cannot be ignored any longer.;)

In my opinion, there has been a whole lot of awesome suggestions posted in the forums.

And in a recent livestream, FDev made it very clear that they welcome and appreciate the feedback.

On the other side, any programmer will tell you not every simple idea is easy to code. In fact, some simple ideas are very hard to code.

And one must recognized the majority of players don't provide feedback - the silent majority so to speak.

So I do commend Frontier for working hard to improve the game, and look forward to what they are able to accomplish.

And I also commend them for being so open to customer feedback, as well as what I hope is a trend of sharing more of what's in development.

I do not think that is an entirely fair statement.
Frontier explained from the start how they would develop the game.
They said many times that initial mechanics would be revisited and improved over time.

I do feel that they really need to address the core mechanics like exploration, mining, bounty hunting, piracy etc. now and make some fundamental and perhaps even radical changes.
They cannot wait any longer. It is time to get the fundamentals right, so they can build on them for the future.

Thread is about forumites, not Elite Dangerous

A little critical thinking would have let you work that out yourself! :D

Ouch...total ownage in two short lines...not just a pretty ink blotched face then :p

Funny thing about it being I just. spied this thread after a comment on the colonia is dead thread.

Frontier dd indeed listen to feedback...then they ignore that feedback and do as they please regardless which does make one stop and think about whether theres any point in giving them feedback at all. Thing about it is...they have already done this exact thing with the whole jacques/colonia debacle so anyone who claims frontier cares enough to take player feedback on board...kindly explain what happened with colonia if ye will. Explain why 85% of players...quoted result from erimus btw...didnt want the bgs installed at jacques but frontier ignored that number and did it anyway.

How has that worked out btw?

Frontier ddnt care and they never did...they have already demonstrated this fact quite clearly so really, whats the point in giving them feedback when ye know they will just ignore it anyway? Cos lets face it...colonia aint the first time is it?

And where this increased communication with the community they promised back at their expo? Must be a big download to have taken 6 weeks and nothing but feedback threads to show fer it...feedback threads I ignore out of hand because I just dont trust them enough to care. I see those feedback threads as a positive PR campaign, nothing more special than that. Sucker the players into thinking they have a voice...keeps them distracted and involved...or so they believe anyway.

Minimal effort, maximum return and enough desperate players willing to believe just about anything frontier says...some players have the memory of a goldfish it would seem ^

If you ignore the communication, there is indeed no communication. That is at least internally consistent, but also rather meaningless. :p

I wonder what the record is for threads started versus threads closed? Looks to me like the OP is running at 14 started and 10 closed right now. Impressive.

There really isn't enough cheese in the world to go with all that whine.

I follow it but dont take part in it...whats the point? It makes fer interesting reading the way reddit supplies laughs and giggles at the pvp refugees there. In saying that, frontier have already destroyed any trust I had in them more than once so my point stands. Whats the point when they have historically ignored it in the past anyway? Even if they dd debate and discuss certain things, I still feel its nothing but a PR campaign and they still gonna do as they please anyway.

Thats what they have done in the past...so yer saying things have gone through a profound change? Are they turning over a new leaf? Or is it just more of the same? Its hard to tell these days so Ill err on what I know and what I know is they have ignored all feedback in the past...no reason to think they have suddenly changed ergo whats the point?

If I thought fer one minute they actually listened, Id be there with a few ideas but after everything thats happened in my time here, I really do have to wonder if theres really any point? Their game, their problem to sort out...they created this situation in the first place so I care a whole lot less nowadays...now Im happy enough just being the unquestioning passenger which is apparently the very thing frontier wanted. Fer how long that lasts will depend on how good their promises turn out in 2018...optimistic to a degree but tempered with the memory of past indescretions mean I dont expect to be here at all this time next year. Time will tell...but between now and then, I dont care enough to invest any more energy into feedback that gets ignored.

If they actually start listening, Ill gladly come back here and eat humble pie...Ill admit all my past mistakes and chastise meself fer lack of faith. Until that actually happens though, I wouldnt give them the time of day ^

Personally, I blame this forum for putting us where the game is now in the first place.
Listening too much to a handful of loudmouths instead of developing the game you initially intended is never a good idea.
Let's just hope the C&P thing won't stifle everything the same way in 2018.

Out of curiosity, what's this difference between this thread here and this other one over there:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/391931-Have-there-always-been-doom-gloom-threads

...in terms of what's being discussed, the forum itself vs the game of Elite Dangerous?

Perhaps we should close it as a duplicate if that's what you're suggesting?

I couldn't give you a definitive answer, but maybe because that one at least asks some questions to try to invite some kind of intelligible debate.

Balanced debate is the last thing required on these forums I might suggest.

That doesn't even make sense!

Quite ironic really considering you were asking about intelligible not balanced. :D :D

For anyone that cares:
I've been following the OPs posts for the short while they've been back to the forums.
I've discovered the reason for all these threads is that they didn't understand what game Elite was when he/she bought it and wishes it to be changed. Due to the incredible lack of anything resembling content in most of their posts I've not yet been able to work out what game they wanted it to be or how Elite should be changed to get it to what the OP wanted. As far as I'm aware their only comment is "Change it" which is about as useful as us saying "Play a different game".
And this is also the reason so many of the OPs posts are locked because of the lack of ideas or specific feedback we've got nothing to discuss or think about other than how poor the first post is and usually it turns into total off-topic nonsense by the end of the first page.

Buying the wrong game doesn't mean that game should change to be what the buyer wants. It's up to the developer to provide a reasonable description of what they are selling and up to the buyer to do fair research. Given the OP joined the forum in November 2016 I can only assume they purchased around the same time, there were more than enough videos and reviews etc out there for the OP to make a decision on whether to buy or not. My theory is they got stung and are now in so deep they can't back out gracefully and accept their mistake.

It's like buying Pineapple juice then complaining it's not like Apple juice and telling the manufacturer their product is bad because it's not like apple juice.

A quick fact-checker at the end. No there is no turning tide, there is no giant up-rising that you are hoping for:

1) Frontier accepting that its not perfect, thats not news, they said that pretty much a few weeks after launch, and before launch iirc... If it were complete and high quality everywhere they'd have nothing to develop these past 2-3 years and there'd be no plans for the future.

2) ObsidianAnt has been critical for a long time, heres a video from 2015: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkinN0tRCz8 ... Again, no news here.

3) Yes players of the game are pointing out issues, as have we all been since 2014: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/76-Suggestions-amp-Feedback

So overall to the OP: please provide content, tell us why is the pineapple juice not what you want, how do we improve it and what would you hold up as an example of what it should be. Saying the game has critics does nothing, everything has critics even pineapple juice! (also oh god finding that is going to give me some interesting adverts next time I go on youtube).
I mean I suppose you can carry on getting threads locked and stuff but I believe there's something to do with Einstein and his definition of insanity in there somewhere.

Last thread from OP was a lot of fun, but I don't think there is anything more that could be said.
Did we really need another one?

Apparently the thread he started 25 minutes after this one was his first thread in 10 months, and then there were the numerous threads he started last week, I would assume his may never end.
