In re: Further/Prestige Elite Ranks (Elite I through Elite V)

So how do these work? Are our old profits (trade/exploration) or old combat exp (combat/CQC) included in those, or did we all get Brabened?

I'm asking mainly because I've got like 26.7B in trade profits and 2.6B in exploration profits and I sure as hell don't want to miss out on progression because FDev decided to be lazy.

It's not like we're getting anything past bragging rights anyway. I don't really mind "earning" those ranks while playing the game instead of getting them right away just because I happen to have enough playtime to fulfill any "requirements" already

What an incredibly dumb straw man. Players didn't demand new ranks. If anything there was quite a vocal group of players who said they really, really didn't want to have new ranks.

But I guess it's easier to win an argument if you make it all up in your head.

Yeah I'm still wondering if I were to go sell what I have in my FC right now would this just jump me to where I am supposed to be, or if basically 25.65B of profits disappear into a black hole regarding my trade rank.

I do see some people with Trader Elite V on Inara and I doubt they just pulled billions out of the blue in the past few days.

Did someone pee in your cornflakes? Ranks beyond Elite rank had been discussed in the forums several times prior to Odyssey. Some people argued for new ranks, others argued against it. As always.

I for one don't care either way, since the only real purpose of the Elite rank is to get access to Jameson Memorial, so unless those new Elite+ ranks will unlock permits and stuff, I couldn't care less if I get them immediately or if I have to "wait" until I've unlocked them naturally by just playing the game

Fireytoad first brought this to my attention during the Odyssey Alpha. According to him, (and I'm paraphrasing here, go ask him for an accurate version) this is how it works ...
Any rank progress gained before Odyssey is already counted. So I have 2 billion from trading, makes no difference.
Any rank progress after Odyssey is released is counted. So if I make another billion in trade., I prestige on trade rank up to Elite II.

The turn of phrase "or did we all get Brabened?" probably put me on the wrong track regarding the tone of the topic. In that case I apologize. That being said, I don't think any new ranks that won't provide any ingame benefits are worth any drama in the first place. There's simply no need to "grind" for anything that does not provide any ingame benefits.

On that we agree.

Most complaints were along the lines of such a pointless addition doesn't warrant messing with the lore. And it feels like yet another carrot on a stick / grind that's used as a cheap substitute for meaningful content.

Yeah I admit I am probably a bit too cynical but look at it from my perspective. I'm still not sure if it's the case but it'd be lame to lose all the rank progression compared to someone that's still working towards their first Elite. If Elite V in trade is at 6.3B, then I have to basically pull in 25.6B more than someone who started today. If Elite V in exploration is at 1.6B then similarly I have to hit the galaxy and collect a ton of data on top of everything.

Not lost.
Using my trade rank as an example ...
Before Odyssey was released, I had 2 billion from trading. I was Elite rank in trade
After Odyssey is released, I don't magically jump up to Elite rank II, I stay at Elite rank I for trade even though I have 2 billion credits from trading.
When I get another 1 billion credits in trading, my trade rank will change to Elite II, until then it's just "Elite" or Elite rank I ... whichever way you want to call it.

same here, so are these elite+ ranks official now? how far do they go up to? any info in what's needed to achieve each rank?
seems to have been slipped in quietly

As I said above ... as I understand it, thanks to Fireytoad (who in the alpha came back to the bubble and sold two years worth of exploration data and went straight to Elite V) for every Elite rank level over the first Elite rank you prestige a number. So Elite II, Elite III etc. We don't know the maximum rank for that yet, but I doubt anyone's getting to Elite IC anytime soon to find out

It came in in Odyssey ... it's not in Horizons.
