in season 3, open up the Cobra Mk4 to all players and rebalance it

The Cobra Mk4 was a preorder bonus for Horizons and was balanced such that it wasn't TOO good of a ship so that those who missed the window wouldn't later be upset about it (particularly new players).

Sadly the ship has left a bad taste for many, particularly in its speed and handling. I suggest that in season 3, maybe mid-way through, enough time will have passed that we can open the ship up to the general pop and rebalance it to properly fit between the Cobra MK3 and the Asp E.

Cobra Mk IV is a pig, I tried putting lip stick on it didn't help anyone who does not have it your not missing out on anything at this stage.

Agreed, it's a great-looking ship but a bit of a whale when it comes to handling. I don't like the idea of "exclusive" ships, even as pre-order sweeteners for early backers - paintjobs, decals, fine, but not ships. Those are the meat and veg of the Elite experience and everyone should have access to the whole hangar. Release the Mk. IV from its exclusive compound so everyone can experience it! [big grin] And yes, a balance pass would be nice <.< >.>

OP, when you say rebalance it, I assume you mean rebalance the ship for combat?

Why should anyone who didn't pre-order get the ship that was a pre-order bonus?

That's like being asked to buy drinks for everyone who DIDN'T come to celebrate your birthday.

What the Cobra Mk 4 shows is that the Cobra Mk III is as close to perfect as you can get and changing anything lessens it.

Could the Mk 4 use a buff? Probably. But to what end? The Cobra is a multi-role ship. Any buff would have to push it one direct or another - combat was where it was headed.

What kind of role should the Mk 4 fulfil?

Because time passes? I was a pre-order backer for the lifetime pass, and I've never liked the idea that the Mk. IV might remain unavailable to the entire Elite community. I'd much rather it be spread far and wide for people to try and play with than put it on some dusty shelf of exclusivity.

As for the balance pass, to be honest the only thing the Mk. IV really needs is a boost to its performance. Not even to bring it on par with the Mk. III, just enough that it isn't a waddling death trap and a pain to fly. Heck, give it speed OR agility if you want - just don't leave it so badly bereft of both.

Around 1.5 or 2 extra base MW output for the generator would also be nice as it would open up more diverse weapon options on a full power load, but that's a limitation of the Power Plant grading system.

Rebalance it to be good at something. Anything.

I'm all for it. The Cobra mk4 is a piece of crap because it is exclusive content. Remove its exclusivity and make it worth your time to even look at it in the shipyard.

if it was a pre order exclusice does that mean that it was unavailable to anyone after horizons had launched. refresh my memory please, when did Horizons launch?
