The Cobra Mk4 was a preorder bonus for Horizons and was balanced such that it wasn't TOO good of a ship so that those who missed the window wouldn't later be upset about it (particularly new players).

Sadly the ship has left a bad taste for many, particularly in its speed and handling. I suggest that in season 3, maybe mid-way through, enough time will have passed that we can open the ship up to the general pop and rebalance it to properly fit between the Cobra MK3 and the Asp E.

sign if you agree!!

dangit, poll headling was cut off, it should read:

"Should the Cobra IV be made available to all players after Season 2, and rebalanced to improve handling and/or speed?"

I voted no, but here's why...

I don't have a problem with folks owning the Cobra IV. I'm glad that I picked it up as pre-order content, but I don't feel special or anything for having it. If folks want it, let 'em have it.

What I do object to is every ship in this game being tooled up as a dogfighter. With the Cobra IV you have a serious trade-off... excellent hardpoints and optional internals on a small ship at the expense combat maneuverability. As I've stated before, just because the Cobra IV isn't a good dogfighter, that doesn't mean that it's an incapable combat ship. It just means that it's being employed incorrectly, and differently from its intended combat role.

Sorry I had to vote 'no'.

The Mark IV is a Ford Edsel. It's the 34th century and it's realistic that a reputable manufacturer like Faulcon deLacy might produce duds once in a while. Let it stand as it is. Makes for good target practice if nothing else.

Hi All,

Personally I am happy with the Cobra IV having a wider audience, I just do not think it needs a re-balance. Diamondback Scout, Asp Scout, Vulture and Cobra IV are all in-between Cobra III and Asp, all lose something compared to the Cobra III to be better at some other aspect. I quite like having to make a choice. A "one ship better than all the others" at this level would make too many hulls redundant.

Mhe, dont' care. You can give it away to people as a free ship, and I bet all most people would do is sell it for the cash. Ship is bad, I flew one when doing some mining for the RNGineers, and it's the first time I've ever been killed in a 1-on-1 fight with an NPC. It SUUUUUUX.

So, voted yes, I'm no precious about it.

Yes (I have it), and open up Black Friday in some capacity. I missed it by 4 days or something on my preorder, would pay lots of money.

Agree, it's a great-looking ship but a bit of a whale when it comes to handling. I don't like the idea of "exclusive" ships, even as pre-order sweeteners for early backers - paintjobs, decals, fine, but not ships. Those are the meat and veg of the Elite experience and everyone should have access to the whole hangar. Release the Mk. IV from its exclusive compound so everyone can experience it! [big grin] And yes, a balance pass would be nice <.< >.>

I don't think it needs rebalancing tbh. It's already the most versatile small ship thanks to its large amount of internals and great hard point placement.

Sure it's slow and has a pretty cruddy turn radius, but speed and agility isn't everything in every ship, especially if one uses turrets in the three small hard points.

I don't mind if non-preorder people got it now.

Absolutely every word of this. It's a great little ship, it's just not a great little fighter. Its internals are outrageous for a ship that size.

To be clear, I would have no issue at all with it being generally available, I just don't think it needs rebalancing - it's people's expectations that need the rebalance. If you think it's a poor ship, stop judging every ship based on its combat ability and nothing else.

NO - cuz pre-order content.

You get this then I want founder world access and insurance costs.

You can get Founder's access in-game anyway, we all can.

I like it as it is. I also like people keeping their word. I wish I could have gotten an ahn qiraj battle tank in WoW, but I didn't play during the event when they could be gotten, so I missed it. That's okay, the main point of it is that it indicates you were around then and took part in the game at that time.

It's only considered to be an incapable combat ship because every other ship is tooled up as a dogfighter. Reduce the pitch rate acceleration of larger ships and increase their drift when changing vectors, and you'd have room for ships like the Mark IV. As it stands currently, everything can pirouette on the head of a pin, so there's no combat role for it.

Having fought large ships, I'm inclined to agree with you. However having never flown them I'm going to have to let others have that conversation.

I can't vote (on phone) but I'd like to see the Cobra mkIV unlocked as is when season 3 is released. And then a new ship introduced as a pre-order special.

Absolutely not. If you weren't available for pre-order either financially or not...then you don't get the prize.

To be completely honest you're not missing much

Not too fussed l either way. I managed to sneak in with the Horizons bundle just before this window closed but I opted for a Cobra Mk III anyway. No reason it won't be gradually phased in.
