Newcomer / Intro In the middle of nowhere with no fuel or station to be found...

So i was trying to go to the imperial part of space when I managed to run out of fuel and I don't have enough fuel to make a jump to the next system over to buy some more(and a fuel scoop). I don't have a fuel scoop and i'm afraid i'm gonna have to self destruct and lose all this precious exploration data! I have like 20k worth of data

Yup, I did the same thing when I started out my friend. Sucks. You have to self destruct, and now you'll never run without a scoop :)

Yeah, sucks that it takes so much work for so little reward though. You can make 20K in just a few minutes trading. The exploration data can be redone if you've got the will to do it all again, next time though, I bet you'll equip a fuel scoop.

Don't forget to use the starmap to plan long journeys. Unexplored systems might not have a scoopable star so you'll need a contingency plan - basically don't burn all your fuel on the assumption you'll be able to scoop.

but if I replace my basic discovery scanner with a fuel scoop I'd have to replace something important like my shields with my sds. I can't get rid of the cargo bay that has 4 spaces bc I think it's a default

What are you flying? The Sidewinder doesn't have any wiggle room for lots of stuff, so you probably need to upgrade to an Adder if you want to have fuel scoop + exploration gear + cargo + weapons space.

Cargo bays are replaceable.

Plus if you do get a fuel scoop get a better one than the CR386 basic one, it's garbage and takes forever to fill a tank.

As I see it, trading is the "job part" : not much fun, but brings in Credits. Bounty hunting and Exploration are the "holiday part" : you do it for fun, not for the money. :)

Well actually bounty hunting will bring u medium credits, ill suggest bounty hubt then u can even explore in an eagle thats 44k cr

Ok the bit I dont get is Im running out of fuel I find a system thats full off Hubs and stations and docks but when I approach them they are invisible.. WTH

Hmm how do we save that exploration data then?
Does it happen when we 'save and exit'? Or is it only ever permanently on the ship, until destruction?

Also, I might not be thinking if I've previously seen the descriptor, but where does a star state if it can be harvested for fuel? Is it just common knowledge per star-type? Or, based on the temperature of the star which would prevent one from getting close enough to harvest it.

exploration data, or bounty vouchers, stay with the ship until you cash them in. so they are saved automatically, and they are lost if you get blown up. i believe if you change ships it will follow you though, but i'm not 100% sure on that.

which types can be harvested is common knowledge. a quick google should throw up the types you can and can't harvest from. colour is a good indicator though: orange, yellow and white might work, purple wont.

If a system is full of starports then it sounds more like you have a lack of understanding about how space travel works and swapping between hyperspace (jumping between systems), supercruise (faster-than-light speed) and normal space (normal speed). Also how to disengage SC to come out at a station for docking.

Have a run through of the travelling tutorial again and check out some youtube videos.

^So much this. Always make sure you have enough fuel to get back to your last refuel spot if you say... come across a type T star system.

Scoopable stars - I seem to remember reading this to help remember the types of stars that can be scooped. I have a post it note with them written down, but now I fly a Cobra with larger fuel tank and a scoop (I scoop little and often after having to self-destruct my Eagle in similar circumstances to OP).
Anyway, it goes something like this...
Oh
Be
A
Fine
Girl
Kiss
Me

And if you are in a fuel limited ship when you plot a route... Check it. The route planner doesn't take into account when you need to refuel, so it may take you through some non-scoopable stars at the point where you will run out.

Hi

Couple of points:-

Exploration data is linked to your current ship. If you change ships, it is still with you.

Route planning
If you plan a long route - up to 100 ly currently (beta 1.1 is up to 1000 ly), check the route line before setting out!(and after loading cargo).
If you don't have enough fuel, the route shows as a dashed line instead of a solid one. You need to fill up before then either scoop, or pit stop

Thx Lowest.. I did solve it (I Had mapped a key incorrectly) but you were correct .. I simply wasn't dropping out of supercruise DOH!
