In what order ships are sorted?

Hello,
When I go to the Shipyard, I lose a lot of time to pick up my ship.
The reason is that I don't understand in what order ships are sorted.
See here for example:

It does not seem to be alphabetical order.
How do you know what will be the next ship in the list please?
Thank you.
Best regards.

I miss the legacy full page list of all my ships when I wanted to transport one.
I regularly play both legacy and live (Odyssey) and the things I really miss from the legacy shipyard are the ability to sort but different columns and being able to scroll infinitely through my stored local ships, meaning that I can quickly get to the other end of a long list by going backwards. I don't think it would take much work to get both features into the live shipyard.

They are sorted in the order they were purchased in, from earliest to most recent.... which is arguably the worst order they could have been put in.

You can test this (and rule it out) by buying a stock sidewinder anywhere. The ship you arrived in will be the one you bought first (of the two) and likely to have a higher rebuy value.

What would be your preference for how your ships are sorted?

I would like that the 1st sort is "ships at my current location" and the 2nd sort is "alphabetical".
There should be an option between alphabetical and closest to you.
Totally agree!

Alphabetical by model name or by the name you have given the ship?

I think it wouldn't be very hard for them to implement a way to sort them manually. The same way you can swap modules of the same size between slots, you could swap ships in the list, and it would then remember this order.

UI is the thing that people hate working on most. It's unsexy; you need it for the game to work but it's not actually game. It's like grind for coders. 😄

Alphabetical by the name I have given to the ships will be better.
So, I can name my ships to be sorted exactly as I want.
I do the same for my bookmarks in the galaxy map.
I set a prefix for Engineers (ENG), Hotspots (HS), ...
Then the alphabetical order sorts them correctly.

I think it would be a bit of a hack to have to prefix your ship names with something that makes them be listed in the order you want...

(Of course you could do as I actually do, which is to name all my ships with the same name, with a roman numeral at the end... Of course problem is, roman numerals don't alphabetically sort in the same way as arabic numerals...)

In my opinion, there aren’t any coders or project managers who actually play, let alone enjoy this game. They just make too many bad decisions for me to believe otherwise.

Therefore, everything they do is a “grind” - their only motivation is the paycheck

It's also the hardest. The designers have to try and forget what they know and put themselves in the position of the user who may well not know what's going on at all and the user who knows everything.
