Inbreeding doesn't cause bad genetics*

*in this game. Real life inbreeding is a different can of worms I'm not opening in this thread.

But in this game it doesn't cause bad genetics, quite the contrary actually. I'm working on a big breeding project at the moment and I'm not afraid of inbreeding. It's an easy and very effective way of improving the stats of your animals!

These 3 babies all have 100% in all four stats and they're the result of extensive inbreeding.
If you know how the genetics work in this game and you want good stats, then inbreeding is your friend!

Yeah, pretty much. Like inbreeding IRL, it doesn't cause bad genetics by default, but does make it hard to get different genetics than the group currently has.

I get really bad fertility when I inbreed animals (in franchise mode) I havent noticed other bad stats, but ive had two high fertility animlas who are parent and offspring breed accidentally and their babies had bad fertility, it doesnt happen always, but it happens often enough i try to avoid it. Though i havent played in a few weeks so maybe they changed it.

The tips on the loading screen mention that inbreeding can potentially lower the stats of both immunity and fertility (didn't say all stats, just those two). Doesn't happen all the time, but yeah happens enough to where it can encourage wider gene pools. For example inbreeding my all 100% stat albino pronghorns just results in bad genes, where they're more likely to produce more 100% babies when I don't inbreed them.

However, inbreeding never has a negative effect on exhibit animals I've noticed, so those are pretty easy to keep high stats for.
