Text
"A grey Tuesday morning, 'neath Lancastrian skies
We wake once again to wipe tears from our eyes.
Forced to wear robes of weakness and pity,
As cowards attack the very heart of our city.

Like always we'll comfort and hold one another,
A Mancunian family of sisters and brothers.
For a time our strut is reduced to a stagger,
But make no mistake, we'll rekindle our swagger.

We'll learn how to live with another deep scar.
If you think you can beat us, you don't know who we are!

We're Collyhurst, Ancoats, Moston and Sale.
We're Oldham and Bury; Ashton; Rochdale.

We're Pankhurts and Turing, the Gallagher Brothers,
We're Morrissey, Marr and a million others!

We're a city of workers, a city of shirkers.
A city of tracksuits, and bibles and burkas.

Vegetarian, Rastafarian, Athiest, Jew.

100 red! 100% blue.

We're each of us different but never alone.
In the Cosmopolitopia we get to call 'home'.

So, come at us again, and again if you must.
Time after time we'll rise from the dust.
You'll never prevail - not against us...

This is Manchester, our Manchester,
And the bees still buzz!"

As others have said, this was very close to home for myself & partner who frequently pop in from the outskirts of the city to go see a gig, and so know the venue well.
We heard about it from a friend who was there with her teenage daughter, she'd updated her Facebook page to say that there had been a loud bang and that they were being herded out, thankfully arriving home safely but shaken.

So sad to see a music event targetted as something we love, and because music unites people from all walks of life.
Heartbroken for the victims, their families and friends. Thoughts and sympathies to all.

And I'll repeat T.j's request but in my own words:
To those of you seeking to hijack this thread and atrocity for your own OT agendas, please can you kindly shut up and jog on to some other dark corner of the internet - thank you.

I've just found out that the little girl Millie, seen by millions in these photos

is from the Ribble Valley, where I live. Her mother Michelle died in the blast.

Ok Everyone..

The thread is running close to breaking the forum rules set out by Brett here.

As I mentioned before, please use this thread to offer condolence and sympathy to the victims of the bombing in Manchester.

Please let's not turn this into another crusade thread.

Thanks.

Just curious here - are we allowed to criticise an ideology in this thread / forum? Specifically, a religious ideology? Even more specifically, a religious ideology whose tenets were an inspiration for the mass murderer who caused this atrocity?

I would say that as long as we are clear and make it clear; the said ideological tenets, is not a part of the mainstream, of said religion. The vast majority of the practitioners, followers and preachers of said religion; are appalled, horrified by these actions and have totally disagreed there is any religious connection with these actions.

From my experience you will have to preface it ALOT! Even then it will probably get deleted. I get why but the basic answer to your question is no.

I noticed Lorenzo Pizzeria was raided in my home town.

It makes me wonder if there is a plot for someone to pose as a pizza delivery guy, delivering to say an office, and actually be carrying a bomb in the box or Pizza bags.

Alternatively a person delivering Pizza to an address regularly would not arise suspicion from neighbours, when in fact they could be carrying money or materials to aid in the construction of bombs.

Right, I made this thread for one reason. To inform people of a tragic incident, and made no comments on what I thought of anyone.

I was simply reporting the news.

I hope you guys do not link me to any politics in this thread. I only care about one thing. Wishing the best, or as best it can be, for the victims of the attack.

When I commented, I was very angry so I possibly came across as ranting...fer this I apologize if it was disrespectful. In my defence, this isnt my first life experience with terrorist bombs and it takes something truly vile to make an impact on me.

This was the definition of vile. Going after the kids was a line one simply does not cross, and there can be no justification fer that in a sane mind.

It made me angry and I dont manage my anger well. Im better now...I learned how to hide my anger decades ago...the pursuit of retribution will ultimately destroy a man, so the anger goes deep...now is not the time and my apologies again ^
