Include a tile that casts shadows

We all want to be able to create darkrides, true darkrides, without having to build them underground. Can you please create a tile of some sorts, that casts a shadow as if you were underground, so that we can finally create darkrides without hacking with terrain

If possible this would be fantastic.

... and while we are onm the subject maybe fix the black water bug too.

This is a great idea for a solution to this. Just as the path markers we recently got to stop guest to walk trough are decorations. A shadow maker for us to set inside roofs and walls we want to be fully shaded for dark rides would be great. [up]

Discussed previously and they said not possible.

The new feature coming next update will allow camera to switch to night/day on the ride. This is a half-way compromise, the moonlight will still leak through and illuminate the room when you might want complete darkness.

On a related note, I've found that the 'temple gold block' pieces in Adventure pack can be changed to any colour. When changed to black they become the darkest pieces in Planet Coaster, reflecting the least amount of light. Not useful if you want floorboards and other materials in your dark rooms, but if all you want is "darkness" then these pieces may help.

Check out this box made of black "gold temple blocks".

Inside the box I made a hole and put a black art shape in the middle. Yep... that art shape is black! See now how awesome the gold blocks are?

Of course, any scenery in there will reflect sunlight, and any other pieces will reflect the moonlight in varying degrees. This last image shows the combination of night time and black temple blocks. It's not pitch black, but it's very dark.

This last image shows the combination of night time and black temple blocks. It's not pitch black, but it's very dark, and this should be enough for some good dark rides.

Great finding Redrum.

I'm not to bothered by light coming through scenery.
However, I understand why people would like to have it. Especially when you want to make jump-scares or other nice lighting tricks.

I will try this solution next time!

That's a good idea Redrum, though it is like you say, not pitch black, and this is something you might want. Also unfortunately the gold blocks reflect light, which only allows for them to be used in rooms without lighting.

Not true.

The gold blocks have extremely low reflectivity, which is the whole point of using them for interior walls on dark rides.

As you'd know, during the day objects don't reflect any light at all. In this first image, we're back in the box during the day, with the black gold block on the left, and black art shape on the right. No light reflection as expected...

At night, notice how little reflection is happening on the left? Yep.... that's the black gold blocks doing their thing.

Hmm, i didn't test it with these lights, only with the spotlights. Maybe that is what made the difference. Thanks for clearing this up for me!!

Yeh the gold blocks are not perfect and we don't have the same sizes as wall panels. But they're the best thing we have right now for dark interiors. They still reflect some light, but much less than any wall piece or art shape. They are the only piece not to "glow" from the moonlight.

I wonder what the new colourable tiles will be made of... hopefully not too shiny like the art shapes. I'm not counting on it though. We'll see soon.

I wish the new time trigger thing could create darkness where the moonlight is turned off. Seems like something that could be done

concerning shadows, i've no idea if that was discussed before, nevertheless I'm sure most creators have noticed this issue:

any light source beside the sun doesn't have any shadow-throwing effects by objects covering the spotlight. it would be awesome if we could have a light source (like flood light) shining on an object (f.e. the huge animated gear) to gain a huge rotating shadow on a wall.

would be great to create some immersive custom effects this way, too :)

Again, like the black water bug, they'd have to redo the lighting engine. The black water bug is caused by the same thing. Only the 'sun' can cast shadows or illuminate certain particles. It's not optimal but it is what it is.

I had suggested an idea similar to this on reddit or here. I can’t remember. But I suggested even large pre-built buildings in various shapes and sizes that block the light out and then we can create the interiors in the building and then build the exterior around the pre-built building. It would of course limit you freedom of layout or building shapes on the inside but would be a possible solution
