"Incoming Missile"

In a number of the videos being kindly posted by the alpha testers we can see the warning "incoming missile", but I've not yet seen anyone being hit? Have I missed that?

Can you shoot incoming missiles?

Yes, you can shoot them. Also the AI tends to launch them at you from massive range. I'd guess asteroids have been hit a few times also.

They seem to fire only when out of range of lasers in the Sidewinder scenario at least....

I have both been hit by missiles (it hurts) and shot them down and Ive slalomed round the asteroids to let the missiles hit them instead of me. Ive yet to succeed in using a missile fired at me to hit another enemy ship

Yeah they seem to fire them at the start of missions from quite far out... not sure they have heat seeking on them, though would the system warn you of it otherwise? Hmmm...

Either way I don't think I have been hit by a missile as yet, though all the other weapons take me out pretty effectively!

The one time i didnt juke the missile into an asteroid, i didnt noitice that he fired 2. missiles should have a very specific look IMO on the radar. Damn things hurt!

I think I have shot one down while flying backwards but I'm not sure if I was able to target it or I was just shooting blind.

I wonder what guidance they use? On one mission I noticed that I had chaff as part of my load-out, so that suggests radar. I'd hope that heat-seekers could be fooled by running cold.

Or perhaps a variant of the heat sink dump where it is un-shielded and glowing white hot.

I think I did that a lot when I first started playing. It certainly seemed like they were exploding too soon!

I loved the detached computer voice in Freelancer informing you of incoming missiles.

I do nothing against missiles but sit back and watch the pretty lights as they hit the shields, sat in my smoking jacket with a pipe in one hand and a glass of pimms in the other. Us Panther drivers are like that.

No ECM in the current Alpha build. There is something in the loadout about chaff but the dispenser was empty.

I've not heard it on any of the videos I've seen.. I just really REALLY hope they make the ECM system like it was on the original BBC Micro, it really SCREAMED at you.. I loved that and always thought the ECM sound effect sucked on the C64,Amiga and PC versions.
