Inconsistent Internal Narrative

Another point that irks me is the fact that a hired pilot dies when your ship is destroyed, even though you clearly have escape pods (Anaconda), and even though passengers can escape just fine. This is very bad for the crew mechanic and together with the impossibility to stop payments, when you temporarily do not use your crew, this has caused many cmdrs to use pilots as throwaway items. They don't even upgrade them anymore, but fire them before they cash in, or when they switch to crewless ships.

Don't forget that while they are in use, they are reducing your XP gains to half (or worse, if you are playing in a wing/multicrew/etc.)

Here's another one :)

Planet's full composition can be scanned, including percentage of elements in its crust, all from 12Ls away - mined asteroid 300m in front of player needs limpet to show material content.

Go figure.

So much of this stuff should never have happened. Basic internal consistency is, well...basic. Someone should have been on this.

One of many, many design oversights.

I would also like a good explanation for the death mechanic in the ED universe. When the game was not even released yet I proposed that FDev have a look at the way memory storage and cloning is used in the Takeshi Kovacs trilogy by Morgan. I think that would be awesome for the ED universe and would add a shipload of cool new gameplay to the game that would also work extremely well when we get FPA/FPS.

THIS is a super good idea! Seems like it might be complicated to implement unless FDev used the conceit that everyone has remote storage that is backed up on a regular basis (either in real time, or every time a CMDR docked somewhere). That said, the idea of having to return to the area where I was blown up to try to retrieve my stack is very appealing to me.

The amount of fuel in my tank affects my mass and thus my jump range. My SRV can only hold two cargo canisters. Yet my SRV / ship will be able to hold a ridiculous amount of materials when 3.0 drops, with absolutely zero effect on my ship's mass and zero consideration for the SRV's tiny volume.

Elite Dangerous - one part science, four parts magic. I think Sandro and Space Loach locked Braben in the closet a couple years back, they and only bring him out for PR. That would explain ED's change from a science fiction game to a fantasy game.

Well said. Its like we were promised one game...and they took the flight model from it, put it in a different game and gave us rhat one instead...

Many people believe that the flight model is another inconsistency, so it doesn't really make sense to mention it as a highlight in this thread...

Just read your latest thread about hyperjumps..... lets just say I'm happy with the Design team that FDev have!

More inconsistencies:

Every NPC killed ends up in an escape pod, which can be destroyed, taken aboard and brought back to station or sold to slavers.
Except for players - they instantly materialize in the last visited station, even if it's at the exact opposite end of the galaxy.

I would propose distance-based solution to this, but it's not that kind of thread so there, another inconsistency :p

They must have reverse-engineered the magic backpacks they found on planet Tamriel, LOL.
