Incorporeal debris in degraded USS

Lately I've spent a lot more time than usual engaging in USS-oriented gameplay.

I normally very carefully navigate the debris fields that are found in a lot of the USS, but today I was struck by an apathetic mood about the whole thing and started being rather sloppy while scooping up the goodies floating in space.

After I had scooped quite a few I realized that I wasn't hearing things bang off my ship and my shields weren't lighting up. Thinking it was rather unlikely that I was managing to miss all the debris hanging around, I deliberately found the largest chunk of debris in the place and flew straight at it. I went completely through it, as if it didn't exist.

Am I crazy, or is this new? I could swear that debris in USS used to be solid. I'm pretty sure that the last time I messed around in USS (which was 6 months to a year ago, actually) that I remember seeing my shields light up, hearing stuff bang off my hull, and watching stuff fly off into space.

If it's new, I'll make a bug report. If it's always been this way, well, that's quite a disappointing revelation I've just had and quite a grand delusion I've held in memory.

Maybe some debris is non-collision?
I can say it definitely still causes collisions as I just was "stuck" on a piece of large debris a few minutes ago.
