Increase Backpack size

Is there a way I can increase backpack size? Because this is absolutely ridiculous that I try to farm and collect items at a settlement or Inn. However the size of the backpack is 15 for maverick that I had to make 10 trips back and forth to SRV. That eventually three ship loads of pirates or whatever spawn in and I get killed which result in failing the mission.

Ten trips sounds like a lot. Are you really collecting 150 goods per settlement?

Yes, you can upgrade the capacity of your suit. But if you're collecting 150 goods and filling the suit up enough to return 10 times, the upgrade won't help you much because it only doubles your capacity to 30 (goods) and 60 assets. So you'll still need to return to your SRV 5 times.

Although, when I play the game, I had to return to my SRV maybe once per settlement before I got the upgrade and mostly none since I upgraded (mostly, I do sometimes collect more than 60 assets). So I'm lucky I suppose.

We'll maybe see you back when you innevitably hit the 1000 cap for assets. Yes, it's annoying. You can sell some or trade off for other items at the bar. Try to focus your assets on the main ones you need for the weapons and suits you want to upgrade. Just preempting the future thread on this one. If you can collect 150 goods per settlement, I imagine you'll be collecting about 500 assets per settlement so you should hit the 1000 cap after two settlements.

i got the backpack upgrade ... i like it

i can now pick up all the tradeable materials and have less calls for the taxi to drop them off

Seems like the OP is doing what I'm doing......if it ain't nailed down - take it.
Iv far too much stuff in my inventory that doesn't seem to be needed, but I'v yet to reach the 1000 max.....maybe when I do I'll start leaving stuff behind I won't need.

Hopefully I'll learn quicker & note what to take & what to leave when in Settlements, then I too won't have to keep returning to Ship/SRV to offload stuff.

Thing is, there's not much info about items/goods/data with reference to what's needed now but also what may be needed later....& too many items to come across.

I think you can even apply the mod more times. Or not?
Maybe OP is farming with a Dominator suit.

You cannot.

Op says maverick (which has a limit of 15 goods and 30 assets, doubled with the extended mod)

I was just pointing out that they were likely exaggerating. 10 trips to the SRV isn't necessary. Maybe one or at a stretch 2. Upgrading eliminates this.

And the upper cap of 1000 quickly enforces less scattergun looting of assets.

My bad, I overlooked the Maverick part. My speed reading skills are degrading :D

Kinda crazy you have to go to some weirdo, potentially hundreds of lightyears from your current position, and give them a bunch of random items to have a bigger backpack...

As opposed to simply buying a bigger backpack. I guess all the outdoors and sports shops went bankrupt by the 34th century.

I made that mistake once at a tourist settlement.

Now I've got a bit more used to which things are actually worth swiping, I'll just ignore the likes of universal translators and personal documents. Unless it's useful for a blueprint or worth a decent amount, I save myself a trip.

Not that crazy if you consider you are wearing a standard space suit with the carrying capacity built into it, you bought was was available, if you want it modified you have to go to a specialist who does you a custom job.

Sounds like one of the settlement types - 'ish'. There's one I've done where it's a kind of leisure facility. IF - BIG IF - you don't manage your inventory well, yes, you will have to do back to your SRV many times - not sure it was 10, but there about 40+ lockers and cabinets (or whatever they're called). MUCH to be gathered, if you're making money; plus there's a bunch of [suit|weapon|whatever] schematics to grab, too.

It's the facility where there's a really long strip between the power building and the hab/leisure itself. I've not seen many of them - in fact, only one compared to many of the other facilities that seem to be much more common.

Either way - grab that stuff and increase your backpack size as others have mentioned.

PS as you get more experienced you will realise that some things are not worth gathering unless you want cash - I've only done that recently and it makes a MASSIVE difference to the number of trips to/from the ship/SRV.

We need a thread that mentions what is needed for upgrades and what is used for cash only...

Oh, in alphabetical order of type of goods... [stares at bar tender screen and inner nerd rage quits from lack of consistency]

Down to Earth Astronomy has a list and what is currently needed and what can be sold/not picked up.

Hear, hear! And if it can be pried loose, it is no longer nailed down.
