Increase Cannon Projectile Velocity

So, I like cannons. Big boom, looks good, etc. Except those dumb bullets are way too slow. I've thrown baseballs faster than those things. I should not be using fixed cannons, have a lock on a moving target, and have my lead indicator be entirely off the screen. That is ridiculous.

Also, why do they do less damage the further away the target is? Silly.

I agree with you on that last bit, but cannons's speed has already been doubled in one of the past updates, Pre-release it was TWICE as slow, and I had fun with 'em. Remember you're firing at targets kilometers away, not feet away :)

Well, it's still too slow. Again, the lead indicator should not being leaving my screen just because the enemy is doing standard maneuvering or thrusting.

The only way I could get behind increasing cannon projectile speed is if it created significant kickback on the firing ship. IE: if i shoot then i should be pushed back (similar to the reaction of colliding with something off the same point the cannon(s) are mounted).

Cannon turrets are equally useless above C2 due to the speed of the turret's movement, but that's slightly unrelated.

Damage should definitely not be reduced with distance with non-energy projectiles. That's just silly. They technically should get more damage the further away they are when hit as acceleration is constant and so kinetic energy goes up with distance, not down.

Halved more like. Personally I think it probably should be sped up again - I've yet to find a weapon that's better than a pulse laser all things considered.

I wanted to enjoy cannons, but they seem to have the same speed as missiles. They should be shooting with the same velocity as multi-cannon shells, except with a trade-off of destruction in exchange for quantity of rounds per second.

this. if i turn off flight pop my ship off in some random direction i continue to accelerate until i hit something. it makes little sense that the same is not true for bullets.

Hell yeah, I am down for this. That means I can turn around with FA off and give myself a boost or pull crazy sick maneuvers using cannon kick.

My thoughts exactly. Just as quick, but requires you to be more accurate with each shot in exchange for more boom for your buck.

Actually, if memory serves right, an advantage of stuff like coilguns is that they have no recoil: There's no hammer coming down to shunt out the projectile or anything like that - it's all magnetic fields. If we're in the future and all weapons manufacturers are building guns for use on spaceships which are designed like conventional guns, it would be insane!
