Increased Immersion Ideas

I have no idea if this has been brought up before, but I think we need more NPC radio chatter happening to create more authentic immersion. Here are some ideas I have had.



  • [*=1]Radio Communication with Stations approving landings, not just your ships computer voice.
    [*=1]Comm traffic when your being scanned by authorities and their responses ( not too much chatter or this could get annoying)
    [*=1]Thankyou comments from ships you have saved from vessels attacking them
    [*=1]Generic Radio chatter around stations, perhaps even with some funny situations that are happening locally.
    [*=1]Local radio chatter in frameshift, the more populated the system, the more chatter.. this could really have impact on immersion when exploring, and the audible differences between a busy system and an unpopulated system deep in space

Right now I feel isolated in my cockpit, my ships computer is my only friend.. I feel disconnected to the universe and its people. I dont think this would be too hard to implement,and you could have 4-5 voice actors reading lines in different styles and tones to create variety.

Anyone else have other ideas we could add to this?

They'd need to hire Rockstar to do this.

Also a big 60 x 1100 meters TV inside of the station that shows local news.
 
I like well thought out small suggestions that do make a difference. + Rep. Also like the crowd source idea! +Rep.
 
I forgot to add something, I would also like to see SOS alerts from miners in RES sites, and even SOS alerts in supercruise. We could have a garbled transmission asking for help, and then have a that NPC's ship blinking so we can set a course, or in supercruise just have a contact point open up with garbled radio transmissions.

I really want wars on stations/outposts. Come on, even fights in side the many parts of the stations.
Bring the huge Refineries to RES. Why are they so empty of this?

definitely in on the variety of voices..... and love the idea of distress signals... plotting courses to help...

Im going to sound stupid, but what the hell does the wing beacon actually do? I guess it has to do with something when your flying in a wing and you need to urgently beacon.. lol Thats about as far as I can understand it.
 
All good idea's but when new features like the powerplay interface occur within a void it doesn't bode well. It should have been the same, floating interface as the the station UI.

Even though the Galaxy map is technically similar, you feel immersed because you are IN the map... well you are when wearing the DK2.

These are basic UI features, I hope they are not left as is.
 
Increased ambiance would be a nice touch in game. If I'm not going to be using voice comms I like to stream Air Traffic Control feeds at a low volume to generate a little background chatter in the cockpit. Check out LiveATC.net and click one or two of the "listen" links and adjust the volume before launching ED. Works pretty well.

Some ideas :


  • Station interior reflecting system government/economy and state (famine/war/etc...) both visually and in audio.
  • Mining stations in RES, abandonned Mining stations in depleted RES.
  • More point of interest in systems, related to system economy/gov, such as fighter bases, com relays, casinos, pirate hideouts, space elevators, resort stations, research stations, junkyards, asteroid cities, smuggler caches, patchwork/nomad space stations and prisons.
  • Ships use reflecting factions, e.g. empire not using dropships, fed not using imperial ships. Maybe give some type of faction preference for a given ship dealer. Eg corporate likes Lakon and deLacy. Dictatures like GenDyn more, etc...
  • SC com chatter, distress calls and so on, allowing taking in "missions" at anytime, i.e. putting in more hooks and bangs in RPG terminology.
