Increasing engineer rep

Hi cmdrs,

I was doing some engineering at Ram Tah and was up to L4 and literally a couple of rolls away from completing that and reaching L5 with him when I ran out of mats.

I pinned the blueprint and headed off for a material grind and once I had what I needed I rolled up at a remote workshop to finish the job ... big mistake.

After a couple of rolls I completed L4 but could not move on to L5 as I did not get any rep with the engineer because I was remote. So I headed off on a mini explo grind to get some carto data for him, but after selling him over 2 million worth of carto data at his pheonix base there is no change, plus I can see what looks like a progress bar showing that I am miles off L5!

Any theories out there on how much data I'll now need to get from L4 to L5 as I don't want to remove everything and start again as that will be more material grinding? Just want to manage my expectations!

This is really frustrating as I am sure I was one L4 roll off reaching L5 with him but by using a remote workshop looks like I am way off now.

You can just do 'junk' modules that you have the mats for. What I mean is, check his recipes, see if there's any you have mats for, get a suitable module and engineer it just for the rep. You can toss it after.

Don't do this with Remote Engineering though -- you get NO rep gains from that. Do it at his base until you've reached level 5 access.

Good luck.

Guess the engineering at the base also involves lending a hand in the process, doing smalltalk, drinking Lavian Brandy and smoking Kamitra Cigars. All those human interaction things that let you know and respect each other.

I would re-log after selling the data, just in case.
Also the progress bar is wonky.

Failing that, just do a few more rolls.
You might need like 10 total at G5.

I had to cyberise my eye to get the frag cannon guy to like me more.

These are the times ED really p*ss*s me off. I don't mind the engineering grind, I just did all that, it's the little things like this that really spoil it for me. My whole weekend's play has been grinding, then just when you think it's over and next weekend you can start doing some other things, I'm staring at more grind next weekend too ... grrrr.

Tried re-log but no change and can't do any more rolls with him unless I start from scratch on another mod and burn more mats.

LOL ... just checked on coriolis what the difference between L4 & L5 would actually make to my jump range ... 0.02ly! That settles it then ... no grind for me next weekend, onto other things. Just shows how blinkered you can get in the engineer grind!
