Incredible cargo quantities

I landed at an industrial outpost at the edge of Imperial space yesterday and noted that it had some 11,000 tonnes of slaves available. Even if we assume that each tonne represents a single slave's life support requirements, that is one hell of a crowded outpost. Is there a reason why this would actually be a reasonable volume to hold or should there be some limits applied to stock levels in outposts for the sake of believability?

A truly enterprising slaver would find a way to fit 11,000 slaves into a 1 ton canister. I'm sure it is possible, if you don't mind a bit of stock blemish.

They are simply meat after all, and fertiliser if you get a bit carried away :D

You ever heard of Soylent Green .....it stores really easily and is cargo bay friendly ;)
